King of Mars
"As Alma Rumball approached her fiftieth year, her hand began to draw on its own; the process is termed Psychic Automatism. She became a recluse. Her family provided paper and pencils for her as hundreds upon hundreds of extremely detailed drawings poured onto the page, one after the other all of them strange, vivid, psychedelic, as if from another world. Alma grew up on a dairy farm in Huntsville, Ontario, and led a sheltered existence in the heartland of Canada.
Clearly the drawings have emerged separate from her consciousness, as she claimed no authorship of the works. Majestic Buddha figures and strange little beings hover in the madly intricate line-work, staring out with serene eyes. Alma knew nothing about religions outside her own; she was a simple Christian farm girl. The drawings have been masterfully rendered in the patterns of nature. The film will illuminate the many questions surrounding the mysterious works and attempt to decipher the information within. Was Alma psychic or psychotic?
What’s the difference, and what does it matter?"
