During an episode of the Paracast featuring Joel Martin(Dec 30 07) I heard the suggestion that it seems to be the case that people find it easier to be bad than good. This reminded me of the idea that everybody has a lazy side and, as if this was not enough of a problem in itself, that the problem is further compounded because many people either deny that they have a lazy side or feel that the ways in which they are lazy are allowable(being unimportant or harmless facets of their character).
So far in life, as far as I can see, these aspects of laziness which we all seem to have our fair share of are, potentially, extremely damaging; not just to ourselves and our aquaintances but also to the wider society. However, because of our differences we are actively or passively engaged in balancing out the effects of these lazy facets of character.
For the time being, perhaps we should attempt to not perceive ourselves to be so superior in condemning the laziness of others and appreciate, more, that others may be making efforts in life that we choose not to be bothered with. And concerning people that appear to have few or no redeeming features perhaps we should put more effort into providing such people with more appropriate opportunities along with more encouragement, understanding and assistance.
Or perhaps not?
