The Man Who Built America - Horslips

Free episodes:

Kevin Daly

Skilled Investigator

This is from the great '70s Irish band Horslips

See him driving those golden nails
That hold together the silver bars
They're one day gonna take us to the stars
'Cos he's the man who built America

See him walking that golden wire
A million miles from his starting place
See the world reflected in his face
'Cos he's the man who built America

I've always liked that song but just recently learned that the second verse refers to an astronaut on a tether with the Earth reflected in his visor - a hauntingly beautiful image, to me at least.

(For context, they'd previously released Aliens, an album inspired by the situation of the Irish immigrants to America in the 19th century. 1979's The Man Who Built America (from which this is the title track) answers the question "What happened next?")
