Hi folks,

As there has been some chat about movies lately I was just wondering if anyone remembers the film "The Ninth Configuration", with Stacey Keach.
Written and produced I think by William Peter Blatty of "Exorcist fame.

It's not a film about the paranormal as such but it does bring up some very interesting questions about God, perception and madness, that I think most people here would find fascinating. It's also one of my favourite movies ever. To get a good overview check out the wikipedia entry.

I have just found a copy on e-bay so that's my next job.
Hope you guys find this interesting, bye for now.

Peace,

Mark

Blatty did such a great job of convincing his readers/audience that there is a devil., perhaps "The Ninth Configuration" was an exercise to prove the existence of god. A lot of work has been done by noted scholars throughout the centuries to do just that. He should have included some of that info in the screenplay. "The Exorcist" played on our fears to get the point across., (loosely based on a documented case of possession).,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Exorcist.
The "Ninth Configuration" was not as successful in that regard.
Box office take due to limited release was'nt too good either.
Perhaps the devil has a better agent.

I enjoyed this movie. Saw it many times on cable and eventually got a well used vhs of it... years ago.
Stacy Keach actually stretches a bit and Scott Wilson shows some good range as the astronaut who suffers the breakdown. But it's Richard Lynch who plays (as usual) the nasty villain who I remember most. I was living for him to get his.
The fact that it turns out to be a group of doctors and orderlies role playing amongst actual hospital patients to help an emotionally scarred combat veteran and fellow soldier is a nice twist.
Good stuff. Thanks for reminding me of this movie. Haven't seen it in a looong time.

This was a life altering movie for me.

It appears to combine elements of MKULTRA type research and ideas as well as a look at PTSD.

The relationship between the "doctor" and the astronaut is wonderful and therein lies the meaning of the movies title, I won't spoil it for anyone who has not seen it.

I give it a big thumbs up.
