The portrayal is like most commercials, designed to be appealing in an idealistic manner, but not truly representational of most people's lives or environments. One of the biggest flaws I see is the ubiquitous use of touch screens and predictive software. This technology makes great eye candy, but is actually impractical for a significant number of situations, especially those that don't involve small portable devices. For example when I bought my last computer I bought Windows 7 instead of 8 to avoid all the extra hassle of the touch enabled interface. Sure, a nice big clear single monitor with drag and drop capability onto display enabled surfaces would be cool, but having to manually drag it all around with your fingers is impractical.

By comparison, an optical mouse can cover the entire area down to individual pixel size while moving within an area a fraction of the size. So sweeping hand motions are a pointless waste of time and energy and amount to little more than promotional theatrics. Iconic Menus are similarly irksome as they display relatively few items compared to a text based index tree. That's not to say that there aren't exceptions for specific situations, and that's where you'll see these innovations taking hold. The video itself however, is oversimplified. I doubt that the future is all a neat shiny place where everything we could possibly want is only a hand gesture or two away.
