The world's largest nuclear fusion reactor is about to switch on

Hopefully it won't breed with the LHC, if so then it will be OMG...CYA.
I've always felt that fusion power is the way of the future for reasonably clean independent energy production. As always, the question will be: Does it produce more energy than it takes to run it? The Sun's natural gravitation provides the compression needed for it to work, and delivers us with solar power, so basically solar power is a type of fusion power, but it has limitations. Building functional fusion generators would be a huge breakthrough.

IMO they never should have allowed fission based generators to go commercial. But fusion plants are a whole other story. Once we get them running, then we can decommission all the toxic fission plants and the world will take a huge step forward.
