Bloomberg View: The Gold-Rush Roots of U.S. Budget Woes - Businessweek
Interesting little story about how the u.s. government could realize...according to the story...tens of billions of revenue over a decade by eliminating a handful of incentives dating back to 1872 top encourage mining exploration. including paying royalties like the oil, coal and gas companies. I wasn't aware that this much revenue was out there waiting to be had.
More to the point this article mentioned this exploration takes place on public lands that the us public pays for and the us public pays for the clean up of said lands but the us public doesn't see anything in the form of royalties
Words may escape me on the enforcement of this archaic us law, but letters don't...wtf ?
p.s. The title was supposed to read "there's GOLD in them thar mining leases" but I didn't spell check and I assumed it said gold...that old android/swype bugaboo
