I just now heard thunder we are having a thunder and lightning storm. Good thing I have a ZeroSurge power filter for my computer.

That file does not upload here for some reason.

I run my desktop from a generic Walmart type surge protected outlet. But I'm never sure if that is enough and usually shut down when the thunder starts.

the file will only upload if it is a recognised image file .e.g jpg, gif, png etc.. or a .txt, .zip or .pdf file. If you are trying to upload anything else it won't work. It assumes that the image(s) will then form part of a slideshow, so word docs and excel files won't fly, you'd need to either export them to pdf's or save them and then create a zip archive with the file inside.

I don't why I'm typing this though, I mean it must be imaginary because Voyager has already said that they won't be posting to this forum anymore, so it must be a hallucination in my brain.. a very persistent hallucination, but a hallucination nonetheless.

It was a gif. I think the pixel dimensions are too large. You could try drinking some Ayahuasca.

a surge protector will probably NOT protect against a lightning strike.

My power filter is guaranteed to protect the computer from power surges It's not one of those cheap devices. This costs $250.00.. It wouldn't help if a lightening bolt struck my computer! It's not just lightening that is a danger to sensitive electronics. A power failure in the electric grid can create a power surge by inductance.

Been there done that. I lost 2 Macs to expensive surge protectors. One was from too little power during a storm (power company called it a brown out) and one was from a lightning strike to my house. A UPS (uninterruptible power supply) is what i use now.

I am always uneasy when using the computer during thunderstorms regardless of the manufacturer's claims. I don't think my house has been hit by a direct lightening strike. The only way to be absolutely safe is to unplug the computer during a thunderstorm.

From Wikpedia:

"An average bolt of negative lightning carries an electric current of 30,000 amperes (30 kA)"

"The average peak power output of a single lightning stroke is about one trillion watts — one terrawatt"

Holy sh... !

What size was the gif, in MB terms?I don't think the actual dimensions would be the blocker, more like the size to upload the image over the net.

That suggestion explains a lot.
The size is: 862 KB. Dimensions: 2582 x 2710. As to Ayahusaca. I have never experienced it.
