Humble Pie
Iron Butterfly
Black Sabbath
Montrose
Uriah Heep
Joe Satriani
Deep Purple (orig. lineup)
Grand Funk Railroad
Rush
Led Zeppelin

Early Maiden would be high on my list. The first few albums are great...and yeah, Dianno is up there in my book. Same for the first Dickenson albums, Hallowed Be Thy Name and Revelations are tied to some memories. Guys like Randy Rhodes and Cliff Burton were already dead, but their music carried on being played anyway.

ETA: Early Maiden track...

Almost all of the Maiden albums are great. :)

And Killers is one of my favs, absolutely. Such an awesome album. But this thread is for Hard Rock, and Maiden is Metal!

Hell yeah! :p

Let's try and throw a few curveballs into the mix:

1. Iggy & The Stooges
2. Alice Cooper (the band)
3. Motorhead
4. Roky Erickson
5. Blue Oyster Cult
6. MC5
7. Hawkwind
8. Dead Moon
9. The Celibate Rifles
10. Pentagram

Old School[\B]

3- Def Leopard
4- Iron Maiden
5- Ratt
6- Twisted Sister
7- Van Halen
8- GNR

10- Ozzy
11- Queen

New...ish
1- Pearl Jam (circa 94-95 not that newer slow crap)
2- Nirvana
3- Bush
4- Skindred
5- Rammstein
6- White Zombie
7- Maryln Manson
8- Gorillas
9- Godsmack
10- Disturbed

My 'roots' are with Black Sabbath, Led Zep', Maiden, Metallica, old Slayer and even Blue Öyster Cult (). The things I listen to these days, I won't link, it's pretty odd stuff for the 'normal' rock fan. Anyhow, if there is a guitar, bass and drums, chances are I like it. :)

I grew up with these Australian bands:

The Angels---Watch for the "Men in Black" theme in the "Face the Day" clip.

Rose Tattoo

The Party Boys

and of course.....AC/DC

I had the pleasure of seeing them live in 1975 at the town hall in my home town.

Wonder what Gene & Christopher tastes in music ?
I played synthesizer in bands all through the '80s and '90s and had a fairly successful pop-metal band in Colorado from '92-'96, Laffing Buddha. I've seen countless bands since the early '70s and I must say the most jaw-droppingly impressive live acts of the bunch were PFloyd, Peter Gabriel and KCrimson. Back when I was wilder, woolier & younger (HS) I was a huge Zep head. Attended the notorious Seattle '73 show the night of the infamous "mud-shark/groupie" episode, '75 Seattle + the NYC Garden show (Song Remains the Same show). But a short list of my favorite harder bands from the original British Metal invasion would have to include Deep Purple, Sabbath, the Who, Pink Floyd, Ziggy period Bowie, Cream, Jimmy Miller-era Stones + others. I never went for the new wave of British metal except Aussies AC/DC. Oh, and maybe Lemmie and the boys, and the Irish lads--Thin Lizzy & Horselips. US artists would include #1 Hendrix, Aerosmith, Blue Cheer, Iron Butterfly, James Gang, Billion $ Baby-era Alice Cooper--later Satriani, Stevie Vai, some Metallica, + a few others. When I got into college my tastes went more prog rock: Genesis, Yes, Gabriel, Zappa, Nektar, UK (w/ Alan Holdsworth), reformed King Crimson (w/ Adrian Belew), Kraftwerk, etc Later in the late '70s I explored punkier bands like the Stooges, the Ramones, the Clash, the Police, Sinceros, Lena Lovitch, Nina Hagan, XTC, etc -- these lists could go on and on...

Check this out... perfect song for a talk-radio co-host :)

Not going to bother thinking about it enough to put things in an order but some of my very favorite stuff is Iron Maiden, Tool, Metallica, Pink Floyd, and Ronnie James Dio.

Most fun I ever had with a concert was seeing Iron Maiden on their Brave New World tour. I had 3rd row seats to that one. At one point Dave Murray tossed me a pick and his aim was perfect because it hit me right in the palm of the hand. But I didn't get to keep it for long because I was instantly tackled to the floor by everyone around me and it was taken away. Don't know if Murray had that planned or not, ha ha.

The memory of losing front row, center of the stage tickets to see Tool still stings. I had them secured at the online ticket site that was selling them (Might have been ticketmaster) but at the last step in the transaction my damned debit card got rejected because I hadn't deposited the money soon enough. By the time the money cleared the only thing I could get was nosebleed seats. I was so bummed I decided to not go at all.

Hi Chris ,
That was funky and cool clip. Yes those are great groups and music is the gift of humankind. I remember going to a family friend house for lunch and entered the house the place was full of guitars. Wow man I thought then this long hair Brumy lad comes out of the other room it was a fella called Ozzy who's Aunt was a family friend . He show me the guitars and share a brew. His friend had been glass in a local pub and lost his eyesight but could still play those guitars:). Ozzy was very cool and gave back passes to a number of concerts which as kids it was great:).
