As an afterthought... the day we get a hint of a potential alien exo-planetary ecosystem in a so-called goldy-locks zone (Gliese 581g) we find out we'll lose our own in less than a century

But good point ! Without conscious intervention the human virus will eradicate what's left of the tropical ecosystem. Apparently the U.K. is already eating away 2.5x what the planet can produce.

I predict gourmet chefs will be preparing jelly fish and fungus based meals in a few years.

Doesn't look that bad (if we have tomatoes left hehe) !

Human virus? Humans have as much right to be on this planet as any other species. If you think humans are a virus then feel free to step up and eradicate yourself first.

I'd rather be a successful virus lol.

From an ecological perspective do you have a better term ? Our specie is canibalizing the self-regenerating diverse natural ressources this planet is able produce.

Can we honestly do anything about other life forms that don't succeed as well on this planet ? There is no doubt in my mind that what we'll do for our own long term survival on this planet is build an artificial infrastructure which meets our needs. The George Lucas 'death star' is really our future 'life star' ;)

A better term? Yes, we are Humans. Why do you hate our species so much? We are what we are. Do you really think we as a species are here to stay? We have been here for an almost immeasurable amount of time compared to other life forms that have existed here in the past. Our time will be up soon enough. Enjoy your species short lived time on Earth.

I totally agreed. The whole "humanity is the scourge of the Earth" is a self-defeating loathsome meme to be certain. Humanity is not doing one single thing that every other form of plant, animal, or insect life doesn't do as a matter of course. War, self induced famine, stupidity, social injustice, crime, infanticide, genocide, slavery, prejudice, on and on and on. One thing I'd guess would be unique to the human race is its irrational self-loathing based on its presumption that it is somehow outside of or above nature. Ignorance of the natural world encourages the fantasy that the characteristics of human behavior are unique in nature and that we are "at the top" of some imaginary ladder or that we should be.

Its not about love or hate lol (who said I hated our specie :confused:)... its about ecological processes. We have a 'virus-like' effect on the other life forms on our planet, that's all :rolleyes:
