Paranormal Adept
Some of you might remember me saying that I saw a ufo around a year or so ago. It was moving slowly and making no sound that I could hear. It then just stopped. It was pretty far away and appeared as a bright light in the sky. No red or blue or blinking lights. I thought it was an airplane at first. But, it stayed still and quite for over 30 minutes or more. Then after a little while it made a ziz zag up and down movement and that's actually the last thing I can remember about it. Now, I'm not (despite my open mind toward spiritual and also paranormal matters) one to take anything out of the ordinary at face value. I even went back out a few nights later and stared at the sky and shook my head to try and get the same effect of the zig zag pattern. I just can't and don't accept that it was real. Somehow I moved my head or my head moved and it seemed the damn thing zig zagged. Anyway, last Saturday night around 8:00 PM on February 11 my wife and I were in a car going down a rural road in West Central Alabama. She saw a light and said "what is that?" We got out of the car and in the Western sky was a bright light. We did look into the sky and managed to find Venus and Jupiter and Mars. She's has taken some class work in Astronomy and knows a little more than I do about the night sky. She couldn't identify this light. It was not a perfect match for the light I saw but it was very bright and seemed closer than the other stars and planets. She then posted the information on her facebook and gave it to a local meteorologist. He told her there were no sightings or atmospheric conditions that night that were reported in the area. I don't know what it was. But, I'll tell ya this, my wife is not a "true believer" in anything as far as the paranormal or ufo or conspiracy theories go. But, this remains a mystery. That's two times in the same town in the past year or so that I've seen something I can't explain.

It sounds like you're applying the correct amount of critical thinking to the situation, Tyder. Keep whittling down the possibilities until either 1. you find a reasonable explanation or 2. you come to the conclusion that it was, indeed, a UFO. I have to admit, I kinda envy you. I've never seen anything like that, myself.

J.

Well Tyder I would be interested to see if anyone else saw anything on the dates you did.

I respect the fact you do not jump to the conclusion it is an alien craft. It is of course a UFO by definition but I always distinguish such things because so many people equate the term 'UFO' with 'flying saucer with alien pilots'. It is ridiculous for anyone to jump there until all other earthly possibilities have been looked at.

It is very interesting also to think about the fact that most humans, looking at points of light against a dark background, will see the points of light moving somewhat. It is not just due to atmospheric refraction of the light but more an optical illusion when the brain does not have enough information to fill the view and starts playing with what you see.

On top of a hill (about 2000ft) once I was with a girl lying on the hood of the car looking up at the stars because it was a beautiful clear night. I was concentrating on a star or two and to my surprise one of them started to move with respect to the others around it. I instantly thought I was seeing an illusion, I certainly had no interest in UFOs and I asked the girl to look at the same star and to memorise the directions it moved for about 10 seconds. When we compared our memories, they were exactly the same.
I do not know to this day if we were both seeing the same star affected by the same atmosphere or we were looking at an object that was lit performing manouveres.
The fact the stars are far away so any atmospheric effects should be the same for the same small piece of sky surely? (Don't call me shirley!).
The fact that makes me think it is likely just stars being afffected by the atmosphere is that the point of light only moved within say, 20-30 'lengths' of that point of light as I saw it. This is a very small area and could easily be just optical effects.

Tyder, if you had to put your thumb at arms length while you saw this in the sky, about how much sky was it moving over?
Do you think if you revisited the place of your sighting with a camera you may see the object again?
It is only recently that I have read any sighting accounts by forum members. I am really interested in sightings by members primarily because of the paracast, we have shared knowledge with which to refer to and also most forum members are healthy skeptics but not debunkers - basically reasonably like-minded people. For that reason I am more interested reading forum members accounts than I am accounts by someone I know nothing about.

I'd like to hear a bit more Tyder if you can refer me to any previous writing you may have done?

I did find something that I posted from July 10, 2010. I did a search and it came up under General Freewheeling Chit-Chat under "Who among you has actually had a sighting?" Here is the post:

I live west Alabama and I did see something I can't explain one night. Now, it's in a rural area (Well, it was rural before some neighborhoods sprang up.) Now this is a fly over zone. There is Birmingham airport to the north and Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery about 90 miles or so to the south and Tuscaloosa airport locally. So, I do see planes at night quite often. Anyway, I'm looking west from my yard one night and I see this bright light. I think "well, must be a plane since that is part of the area I see them in from time to time." So, I look away and do something else (been over a year ago so I'm not sure of all detail) Anyway, I look back and the "light" is still there. I look for any sign of red or other landing lights but I don't see any. (I've noticed that planes generally have red lights if you look close enough at night. But , no aviation expert so I could well be wrong about that.) Anyway, it hasn't moved. So, it's not a plane. Well to be honest I say that now. Then I thought maybe it was farther away than I realised and it actually had moved. I'm very near sighted anyway so I don't "see" everything as clearly as some people do. But, I kept watching and it "appeared" to be stationary. I listened but heard no engine sound. Again, that could have been distance but I always seem to be able to hear the planes if I listen close enough. I called my wife from the yard and she said (ya can't make this stuff up) I'm watching something right now and if you decided it's not really a plane then let me know. (So much for the uber skeptics that say everybody jumps to the u.f.o. conclusion everytime they see a plane in the night sky.) Anyway, I think "well maybe it's a planet." But, it wasn't there the night before and hasn't been there since. Still, I keep looking. Now the next part gets a little freaky. I remember seeing somthing on youtube or an old documentary at one time. On the "film" the u.f.o. dances in the sky. Kind of a up and down and jiggly motion. Well, this thing did that. Still, I thought it's more than likely my eyes since I'm near sighted and I was moving "It's more than likely an optical illusion" Anyway, I wish I has written this down before because I honestly don't remember (no not missing time, I just don't remember) when the object left the sky. I looked and then went in and came out and it was finally gone.

Now, I'm not a believer in the nuts and bolts u.f.o. thing. I don't think they are visiting us. I'm not sure if abductions actually happen or not. I'm skeptical of the whole thing but I've had enough "spiritual" things happen in my life not to completely pass it off. Not that I'm saying this was spiritual. I don't know what this was. I still think it was either a plane or a star or ...well who knows.

Tyder - thanks for that and if it isn't too private or anything can you elaborate on the 'spiritual' things that have happened to you? (maybe just mention one or two things that stand out from the norm).
I love this forum! Getting to find out so much stuff because of the Paracast and it's listeners!

I had a experience of my granddaddy getting ready for a trip on the day he died. I was in the hospital room when he died and later I had gone back to his house. This was 1979 and I was lying on the bed. I remember it as him about to leave and he looked healthy and sounded fine. He said I've gotta go. I've had other things happen that involve a little more intense energy but that is my gift from him. I treasure it.

I also had a dream not to long ago. Now, in dreams we are the center of the dream most times. In this dream a person in the dream gave me a message. Nothing earth shattering but just a message. She was a pretty black lady and right at the end she winked at me. It just had a different feel than regular dreams. She seemed "apart" from regular dreams. Not simply a projection of my own mind. The next day I woke up and got on the computer and googled a term that she had given me. It was an exact hit. Not close and not maybe. But, to the point of what she shared with me. The thing is I told it to a co worker who is a Christian and she felt it was demonic. I hate that so many folks who have faith can't get out of the bubble. The fundi's and the atheist just seem to have a world view that they have to fit everything into. My co worker is a black lady raised in the church and I have to say one of the wiser folks I know. But, I don't think she got that one right.

I also dreamed one night that I was in an enviroment with a red sky. I actually looked back at my body in the bed and started to walk. A figure in a robe was beside me. I asked him "What is the dream?" By that I knew that I meant "what is life?" What and who am I, who is God and what does it all mean? But, I simply said "what is the dream?" He said "You ask to much." A single tear rolled down my cheek and when I woke up I actually had a tear on my cheek. Again, the religious assured me it was demonic (it wasn't) and I didn't really know how (still don't) to catagorize it.

Anyway, those are some experiences that I've had. Not a proof and not a dogma. Just personal living. I've also had some darker experience but I'm not sure of how much of that was objective experience and how much was my own psyche. Although, I am of the opinion that what we call psychological and spiritual are two sides of the same coin. I think it's all one eternal moment and the separation of the physical and the spiritual may be found to be an illusion. I don't really know. ;)

Right now all the hairs are standing up on my back at reading this.

Some thing I have kept very much to myself all my life is extremely vivid dreams and dreaming of the sort you are describing, over the past year and a half they have been getting much stronger and much much more vivid. I have no idea why and please don't say 2012 as that's just plain silly.

One thing I learned very early on was that when I got them to take note as they are very important. I will stop here as I refuse to get all new age on it, nor do I see them as demonic for they simply just are. There is an difference between being religious and spiritual but as to the separation of the physical and the spiritual that line I think is very fuzzy ;)

Anyway Tyder keep posting this thread could get very interesting.
