Judging by the comments of people that apparently live there it doesn't seem to have been a plane. Perhaps a small meteorite or something even more anomalous?? Interesting.

Why? because it happened in Canada? Went down into water? Pretty vague.
The two incidents have very little in common. Having lived in Ottawa and been to Shag Harbour, The differences may be of greater interest or intellectual value to you to look into.

Which reminds me, Dave and Gene, when is Chris Styles or Don Ledger comin on the show agiain?
 
Ha, I was on Owl rafting on Ottawa river back in August, 2007. It's a beautiful place. I don't think this article gives enough information to make any conclusions but it's interesting worth to follow up...
 
There have been intense lightning storms in the region over the past few days. I live about an hour and a half away from there and I have seem some amazing stuff in the sky. Lightning can do some strange stuff, and they don't seem to have found any wreckage.

All of southern Ontario has been getting slammed by rainstorms this summer. The temperature outside has been perfect, but the rain doesn't let you enjoy it.

On topic, read that story a few days ago, don't know what to think about it, maybe lightning struck a sailboat.
