Jacques Vallee reminds us that in his Passport to Magonia that in Robert Kirk's book The Secret Commonwealth, written in 1691, we are assured that "sooner than we think . . . the relations with the aerial beings" (then thought of as faeries and the like) would be revealed to us to the point that our interaction with them and our understanding of them would be as natural to us as are our everyday activities. This promise or prediction is still unfilled. The mystery remains.
During the 1897 airship wave, someone supposedly left a note promising immanent disclosure of the truth regarding the mysterious UFO then flying over the States: "I am the famous airship constructor and will guarantee you positively of this fact in a week." The promise of disclosure went unfilled. The mystery remains.
Every single promise of disclosure by governments of the UFO "truth" trumpeted by the Disclosure-Exopolitics crowd has gone unfulfilled. Yet people still believe them... What astounds me is that people would expect a modern-day government to be in the possession of truth, and that even if they were, that they would tell us the truth.
The refusal to accept the facts implied by the continual failure of the Exo-poltical movement's "prophecies" about disclosure reveals the movement's followers to be proponents of a belief driven by religious fervor, rather than being in possession of rational thought or realistic expectations.
On a positive note, I think we can learn more about UFOs by researching ancient accounts than modern sightings. At least, that shows my personal orientation.
I do not know what UFOs are, I maintain a sense of wonder about the subject. If everyone else on earth thought they knew what UFOs were, I would still abstain from joining them in their certitude. There is a journey to the answer, and the journey for me is what is important, for I know enough to suspect that it is a distinct possibility that I may not arrive at the answer in this lifetime.
