"Scientists at the Purple Mountain Observatory in Nanjing, China believe it is a real possibility that this footage of an unidentified flying object is the evidence we have all been waiting for.

They have confirmed 40 minutes of footage of the object was captured during this summer's solar eclipse .

'Purple Mountain Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences Fellow Ji Hai-sheng said at present it is impossible to speculate what the unidentified object is."

Pity we don't have the full 40 minutes to watch- all we've got are the clips from some cell phones. Hopefully the observatory has better quality footage- and will release it.

I'm really not sure what to make of this. For starters I found this comment on one of the news stories:

This is really bad journalism on The telegraph's part.

The original news story (Ì«Ñô¸½½ü¹Û²âµ½²»Ã÷ÎïÌå ר¼Ò³Æ¿ÉÄÜÊÇÐÇÐÇ_о©±¨Íø) actually talked about two things

1, "Unknown object"
The laboratory observed an unidentifiable object near the Sun, it's physical properties need to be further studied. It then quotes an American scientist who said how US SOHO telescope often observed unidentified flying objects near the Sun, and how the scientist thinks it's an indication there's other civilizations.

2, "Observation of the corona"
THEN, in the very same article, it mentions the successful continuous observation of the corona for 40 minutes during the day of eclipse (07-22), a first time for China. It would take 12 months to process the scientific data gathered during the observation.

Good grief! The misunderstanding could be caused by bad translations or attempt at sensationalism, or both.

If this commenter is correct (I have no idea if he is or not.) then some of the details of this story could be wrong due to a poor translation.

Additionally, I've looked into this a bit on a few forums, etc. The story I'm getting is that any video released so far is not the Chinese government video but simply video taken of allegedly the same event by civilians. Additionally, some are questioning that there really even is a government video. In either event, whether the Chinese government (I'm really not sure if this is suppose to have been a civilian scientific lab or a government sponsored one. But considering the nature of China I'm assuming it is government funded.) really did or didn't film it as well, it hasn't been released yet.

Although the information about this case is not very much available, it would be cool if everyone could press the mainstream media to pick it up as a story. It would be nice to see a UFO story get some wide-spread attention as in the Stephensville, TX case.
