My wife, Kelly O'Callan, has published 3 novels through Amazon, "Breaking Limbo" "The Card Holder" and "Other People" She has received some really good feed back and reviews for her work. What I find interesting, her novel "Other People" seems to be selling better with good reviews from the good folks in the UK. I'm puzzled as to why that particular work of fiction, in that particular part of the world. Anyway, I was wondering if there is a smart way to advertise this novel in the UK. Being an "Indepen. Author" it's difficult to get your work out there for other's to see, as Amazon has a huge base of Writers/Novels lost in a sea of works.
Any advice on how to get her novel on the front page advertisement section of the United Kingdom Times, so to speak, would be greatly appreciated. Oprah has yet to return my calls..smiles..

Theres a book called the Writers and Artists year book published funnyily enough, annually;

In it you will find a whole host of literary agents, publishing houses, literary magazines that are legit and not fly by night web huxters. It will save you time to get it and go through it methodically. Get a good letter together with advocacy, review quotes a succinct synopsis, and a brief bio. Make it look like a corporate business like CV if you send out mailers, don't send lots of papers or the book unless asked for or if it is to be reviewed but include pictures of the actual book or the amazon page. If you can afford to send out the book by all means offer it up to distribution companies or agents. These people get a ton of whacky trash they will bin at first glance if there is any discrepancy so make sure its good quality with no mistakes and looks like something out of a bookshop with an ISBN if it is self published. They also pay people to pay people to read stuff and often go with trends and need to categorise stuff by genre or popular author so make it easy for them. If your doing a synopsis include a description of the book with similarity to other writers or other books that are similar, the age group the book is pitched at, and the kind of reader who will read the book which will help and save time for them but don't say "its the same as", make sure you add your spin, your USP e.g.
"With this book Kelly has created a world of breadth and dimension with the panache of Stephanie Meyer and the vigour of Suzanne Collins yet her stark originality shines through with each chapter" Don't forget to state what genre and sub genre the books are in.

I would pitch at literary agents or book PR companies and let them do the work as they are taken more seriously by distributers and publishers and magazines and magazine reviewers.

From a glance at the amazon and page review of Kelly's books I can't see you guys having any trouble at all.
I hope this is of some help, feel free to PM me. good luck and best wishes.
