Useless technology

One of my buddies is ranting and raving about the blackberry watch and I just don't get it, seems like another piece of useless tech.

I just felt the need to start a thread on useless pieces of equipment. I'll open with the Tweet Peek

TwitterPeek.jpg

A mobile device that is used for tweeting. Just tweeting. This is getting ridiculous. I mean, what happened to the good old days of using your computer or phone? Do we really need a device that costs $200 for tweeting?

Useless technology at its finest.

TwitterPeek = Stupid

If you feel the need to tell everyone when you are having a bowel movement or what food you are eating then for Christsakes just use your phone. A phone is multi-functional idiot!! Make that rich idiot!!

My friend always sends stuff from his blackberry which is fine, but I've seen him use the voice dial thing and it's hilarious. It always questions him, ... "Did you say Dial Janet??" So then it's up in his face while he screams at it, .... then "Did you say ....?". Cracks me up. I don't see how a watch makes it any better. You still have to move your arm right?? Until we get an embedded phone (embedded in/on your head) that phones, emails, plays music, and runs on normal body power or kinetic motion we've reached the limit as far as I can see. .... but I'm sure I'm wrong.

I don't even have a cell phone. People talk too much and do too little.

I haven't worn a watch in five years myself, but I'm curious you know the exact date, pixel. Was it traumatic? :)
yes it was, i received a brand new $80 watch for my 18th birthday, i went out and partied hard of course because the legal age to drink that year was 18. at 12:47 am i was returning home, it was rainy and foggy and as i was going around a long sweeping bend in the road and i saw a couple dimly lit red lights. it turns out a car had stopped on the road in my lane of traffic, turned its lights off and these guys were out of their car drinking beer and trying to talk 2 girls into going to a party. i smashed into them at about 50 mph and then was ran into from the rear by another vehicle. in my mind tho, i very clearly remember swerving around the car and coming to a safe stop. the next thing i remember was being in an ambulance. this was the FIRST time i broke my neck.(C5) it was also the first time i received brain damage,(its ok to laugh and nod knowingly) AND i also broke my brand new watch.

after that, time had a different meaning to me. i am very good at telling time without a time keeping device. i do however use the clock on my cell phone quite often.

This is kind of off-topic, but I had a similar, but opposite experience when I was about 29 or so in 1978. I was about to enter the on-ramp of a freeway when I saw an insulation truck go by, one with the pink panther rolls of pink insulation piled high. I waited my turn, got onto the freeway and was doing about 50 mph when I saw a cadillac ahead of me that was acting weird. Turns out a roll of insulation had fallen off the truck and the cadillac had high-centered on it and come to a complete stop.

I jammed on the brakes. My car, a small Datsun B-210, went into a slide to the right thus exposing me directly to the cadillac's rear and protruding fin. Suddenly my car was on the shoulder, flew past the cadillac, went back into the lane, and continued on as if nothing had ever happened, the image of the cadillac dwindling in my rear-view mirror.

I should have been dead. I wonder if, in another reality, I was. Maybe in another reality, you DID get around and remember that. that's the closest thing to a miracle I have ever experienced.

My wife says, well, I'm a good driver. I swung the wheel left like I should have, drew the car out of the skid, and sailed right on by. Next stop: NASCAR. Yeah, maybe that's what happened. Maybe.

wow! very cool story. actually because it was so real at the time and because i can still remember it like it was yesterday, i have often thought the same thing.
the second time i broke my neck i was banging thru the gears on my 1972 Volvo ES and a deer jumped out in front of me. i swerved and rolled end over end and side over side. i was knocked unconscious for about 2 hours while i was bleeding profusely. i was startled awake by someone calling my name very loudly. it was 4 am and i was in a 20 foot deep ditch. long story short, i walked about a mile towards the hospital because i was going into shock and knew i would probably die if i didnt try. turn out i broke C2, slight brain damage, lost the upper half of my right ear, split scalp open in 2 places, broke a rib and suffered deep punctures and lacerations.
my baby is below. she now lives in nova scotia and is winning car shows.

it was my favorite. somewhat rare in a wagon (estate) version.
2nd favorite car i had was a 1958 Impala Convertible, w/ 348 tri carb
3rd was a 1958 Desoto Wagon w/ hemi

I'd take the volvo any day. the hood is just so well designed, I've seen that car at car shows in coupe form.
