What do you think of V(isitors) on ABC ? And why revisit this 1983 theme ?

Why this obsession with the idea of an advanced reptilian race farming humans ? as per :
https://www.theparacast.com/forum/showpost.php?p=75976&postcount=5

You'd think we would have exploited more sophisticated entertainment venues 25 years later. Are there any truths hiding under the premise ;)

You know, I have thought since the first time I heard all the “Reptilians masquerading as humans” hoo-hah, that they ripped it off the from the original “V” series. Given the public’s short attention span, most would not have remembered the 80’s TV show, so all of this was new to the ignorant masses.<o></o>
The new show was OK, I liked the “Independence Day” reference, and I will probably watch it. I am interested in seeing if they make comparisons to the Nazis the way the old one did.<o></o>
I do miss the bad girl aliens with their 80’s hair styles. Morena Baccarin helps make up for it though.<o></o>

Probably because a) there are no original ideas anymore and b) we have better special effects now.

Seriously!! Do they have to remake every-freaking-thing?? Is nothing sacred?? I guess it's either that or another "Real Housewives of Hazard County" or something to that effect. Damn shame. When's the remake of Logan's Run??

Just to get you in the mood: (of course you might not have even been born yet, I don't know) You can't beat the hair and the hotness of Marc Singer (right ladies??) And I almost forgot, Freddy Kruger...

When I was a kid I figured Dianna was hot. Now, not so much. You have no idea how excited I am to see this TV series...and I'm never excited about TV.

Hopefully this will fill the void left by Battlestar Galactica.

I guess that was ok. Im mildly interested simply for the UFO/Sci-fi themes.

But after watching truly great TV like 'The Wire' I just find it hard to sit through the run-of-the-mill TV cliche tropes and over used plot and character devices that we've all seen 1000000000000000000000 times.

Call me cynical if you like.

Yes, the effects are incredible today, but I disagree about original ideas. Original ideas don't see the light of day because the money people don't have any testicular fortitude ... which in turn is partly driven by the willingness of the audience to accept garbage as entertainment.

The bottom line for the industry is for a project to get viewership so the industry can sell advertising time. Doing "V" over again "pre-sells" it to some degree, because there will be some interest due to the original series.

I am constantly appalled by the standard film produced by the Syfy channel. Most of them are derivative of "Jaws" or the big disaster films, and it's almost painful obvious. I think of the money being thrown away on these things and I remember fondly what Rod Serling could do with two actors, a couple of chairs, and some solid writing (and virtually no budget!)

Again, a failure on the part of the money people.

Bingo !!! Stuff from that era is still burned into my memory.

Intellectually challenging and powerful.

Powerful enough to overwhelm and render commercial breaks ineffective. IMHO, programming is adjusted in order to maximize the effectiveness of the visual impact of commercials. Thus the brainless mush and processed high-tech visuals we get served.

I downloaded and watched the first episode of V. In 45 high paced minutes it exposed the entire premise of the 1983 series.. almost like a VHS tape played in fast forward. Following episodes basically geared up to be human resistance vs reptillian alien gods.

Intellectual value..... zero.

Reptillian paranoria has come full circle with this new series. What's interesting this time around is the inclusion of paranoid Reptilian mythos made popular by David Icke, and recently by Balloon boy's dad. Pretty cool and funny actually.

No Nazi's this time around—instead the enemy portrayal parallels so called "Obama-mania" and their intrusions into our society with programs such as Galactic Health Care, now that's Truly Universal Health Care! Now that was a WTF moment when that was dropped in the show.

I loved the old show when I was a tot. I enjoyed this latest version for what it is—brain dead TV programing:P

Indeed! This new "V" is from a major network which keeps my hopes low for seeing something as good as BSG.

But, and you might not agree, "Lost" is also from the same network and it's pretty good and addicting. The score and some of the directing is standard "network TV" but still watchable.

ABC still hasn't posted a full episode of V online, but as soon as they do I plan on watching it and meeting back here!
