Hi all. I wanted to let you know that while I do not yet have a re-launch date on DMR (working on it with CyberstationUSA) today I finished and sent back to CyberstationUSA a new episode of Vicious Vinyl! I did the very first one on The Moody Blues, and even if I do say so ... and I do ... it came out pretty damned good. It will air on Friday at Midnight Jan. 27-28 Pacific Time.

Well Observer, have you been talking to Vicki? We had a conversation yesterday during the Raven's and Pat's game and that is exactly what she said to me! " (Of course her being a California girl, she did all that Surf stuff back in the day!) Of course this discussion takes me to the movie "American Graffiti" and the character John played by Paul Le Mat. Remember him bitching about all "that surf shit!" on the radio? Hmm, tell you what ... let me do a bit of research with it. Between you and Vicki I can probably pull that off!

Besides Dick Dale, Ventures and Beach Boys, some brilliant surf/instro bands from back in the day included The Astronauts ("Baja"), Chantays ("Pipeline"), Ginny & the Gallions ("Hava Nagila"), Jim Messina & His Jesters ("The Breeze & I"), Pyramids ("Penetration"), Eddie & The SHowmen ("Squad Car"), The Sentinals "Latinia") and The Trashmen ("Surfin' Bird!!!!!").

Two louder and more badass guitarslingers included Link Wray ("Jack the Ripper") and Davie Allan & Arrows ("Blues' Theme").

A few fun current surf/instro bands: Messer Chups, Surf Coasters, and The Ghastly Ones.

Have fun!
