"NASA spent billions upon billions of dollars on space travel and has only managed to send 480 people," Branson said. "We're literally hoping to send thousands of people into space over the next couple of years. We want to make sure that we build a spaceship that is 100 per cent safe."

200,000 bucks a ride.

"Virgin Galactic plans to operate commercial spaceflights out of a taxpayer-funded spaceport in New Mexico that is under construction. The 2½-hour trips — up and down flights without circling the Earth — include about five minutes of weightlessness."

Ah yes, soak the rest of us for costs so we can have the rich in space.

Don't get me wrong, love the concept, the possibilities etc. but damn it, its very telling that this story is listed in the Money section of the CBC website.

That's exciting news Yestopia and yes I totally see your point, but much as I would love a ride in such a vehicle I would have to be totally convinced of it's safety. Though such a trip for people like us may be a long way off I think it's a good thing that the rich are in this case the guinea pigs. :)
