Wal-Mart Shoppers Enjoy Free Food Computer Glitch

Free episodes:

May be a moot point but I'd like to see how that many people caught on in such a short period. Was there a twitter hashtag like #lootwalmartla or #comeandgetitatwalmartla? And how did it get discovered, ? did one person knowingly go over their limit , get away with it and spread the word ? Was the shutdown/glitch scheduled maintenance and someone inside spread the word ?

Yeah im the same, i keep a few months worth of dry stores as well as a vigourous vegie plot running.
There are so many scenarios where the supermarket shelves can run empty.
I have a generator, and 3000 litre water tank and all sorts of other stuff like fuel and butane on hand.

Like minds, have a bit less than that.
Enough food for a few months as dry and canned stores, a little generator, spare rock gas (propane for you Americans) to run a cooker, plenty of home grown veggies and preserved foods to add to the dry stores. The up shot of that is I can feed two people for much longer than two months.
A small solar cell setup to charge stuff up and keep the generator use to the minimum. The solar gives me enough voltage and amps to keep a fridge cool but not a freezer if pressed and the next project is to add some wind power to it so I get a mix of energy input.
250 litre water tank with a rain feed option I just need to plug in when and if I needed it.
Lots of tools, first aid kit kept in a water tight case about the size of a large chilly bin, spare warm clothes etc in two back packs.... lots more than that but that is just a sample of the "If the shit hits the fan" back up supplies we have here.

Been through two major Earthquakes so I would be a real dumb sh!t if I did not take that as a warning to be ready for anything, and I tell you the weather here is very strange, to be honest it is far from normal and the swings in temp, and wind speeds are getting more violent.

Preppers! So, those GCN adds really do hit home then?

Do you guys ever eat that shitty processed food when it gets old, or do you just throw it out? I gotta say, the whole prepping thing seems like such a huge waste of ressources to me, I mean, when did one person here ever experience that food was simply unavailable?

How much food and other ressources are wasted on 'prepping'?

Wallmart is slowly but surely taking over the world. Did you guys know Wallmart owns just about every single major retail chain in South Africa. Soon the world will be just one giant wallmart

Doh! I get it. Thanks Wade. I'd never visited that web site. I get Paracast via RSS feed to gPodder.

I did more thinking on this incident. The "Electronic Benefits Transfer" system is ripe for a false flag attack.

The Human Resource Management System wants accessing the Internet to be allowed only with positive identification and licensure similar to how one must get approval and establish identity in order to drive a car.

Government contracting Information Technology corporations like Microsoft, Apple, IBM, et al. stand to make Trillions implementing new government "Cyber-Security" regulations.

Giant media corporations are loosing billions in sales and ad revenue as viewers flock to alternative news media and download movies and ad-free television episodes.

A "hacking attack" which shut down the EBT system for a week would leave grocery stores across America as burned-out craters. The public would DEMAND that critical "information infrastructure" be hardened against future attacks.

American legislators already have the censorship laws written. They only need a big attack to glide the bills through to passage. They are similar to China's laws...

Your children will laugh at the idea that people in the old days were allowed to use the internet without a government license.

While I have no use for any of those businesses that sell M.R.E. type meals on GCN (or C2C for that matter) I don't see anything wrong with being prepared and having some staples stored, especially if one does it with their own grown produce or bought from local farmers markets and the like. I myself live in LA (eathquakes) and while I'm one block away from a Vons and several blocks away from a Ralph's I have little faith in our retail industry when it comes to times of crisis, between our crumbling national infrastructure our vulnerability to computer attacks and our just-in-time inventory and manufacturing modes I would say food & water storage is the prudent way to go. But I can seer where people would get carried away and overextend themselves. That's why I take offense at the GCN ads. They throw on the fear factor with a trowel.

Also one just has to look at what happens to our sensibilities on Black Friday when people f***ing kill and assault each other because of a real or percieved shortage on the latest hot toy to see that one doesn't want to be anywhere near a place as crucial as a food source when things go sour.At the risk of sounding melodramatic in times like that there is a madness that seems to spread very easily and it only takes one person to start it. Granted its not widespread when it does happen, they are isolated events, but then survival is not a big concern.

There was something a little too weird about EBT cards suddenly malfunctioning "just a little bit". The Louisiana EBT incidents were staged to threaten bread riots. A bit of ye olde divide ut regnes Class Warfare, with a hint of special Katrina sauce.

Message from Socialists to Fascists: "Pass more debt spending now, or we light up the underclass against your middle class".

This is a dangerous game. I can't decide which is better; inciting O-Zombie riots now, or dragging it out until closer to the elections.

Been through two major Earthquakes...

Here on the Gulf Coast it's hurricanes. I was raised in Houston and New Orleans. As a kid I grew accustomed to going a week without Police or EMS or electricity. One learns to fend for oneself.

It's a refreshing feeling to know that there is no 911. During the last big storm I listened on my police scanner to cops refuse 911 calls because they had run out of gasoline.

It's fun because neighbors come together and help each other out with supplies, have big BBQ's, and mutual defense agreements. Unfortunately, it's really the only time our neighbors sit and talk for extended periods.

..I myself live in LA (eathquakes) ..
This makes some sense to me, it's rational. On the other hand, I imagine that Von or Ralph or whoever still want to make money and sell food when the quake hits.

But I can seer where people would get carried away and overextend themselves. That's why I take offense at the GCN ads. They throw on the fear factor with a trowel...
They certainly do. As far as I can see, the whole prepper business builds on creating a demand where none existed, the good old story about capitalism and the creation of false needs.

I DO see...and agree..to what you were getting at. A massive systemic nationwide problem that would result in mass hysteria and shortages which is the underlying message of those ads, while possible, are intentionally overwrought, unnecessary and unproductive (except to the company itself) imho and don't appear on my radar. there are many more immediate existential problems to deal with. But my point was things don't have to be that extreme to cause problems . I'm old enough to remember The Blizzard of '77 and "78, not that that's old, :) in '77 we we were snowed in for nearly a week I.e. no commerce, Many of us probably do live in areas that have to answer to earthquakes, floods, mudslide, hurricanes etc. etc. so many of us would be wise to keep a stockpile. And even a calamity to a region some distance from you could have an impact on the availabity of some products but these would likely be non-essential items that are more luxury than anything.
