My wife has gotten into family genealogy lately and has ordered a "23 and Me" test kit for us both.
When she told me that included in the test results are one's percentage of Neanderthal (yes--Neanderthal) DNA, I thought she was just messing with me.
Nope--they really do return such based on supposed comparisons with sequences recovered (I guess) form Neanderthal remains. Normal ranges are something like 2 to 3 percent.
Being a big boned hairy Bigfoot of a guy, I fully expect to exceed the norm. This should be a real self-esteem builder--especially if my wife's percentage comes in lower. "Put down the club and the deer carcass and try to pay attention, hon', he he...." .
Truly, we live in interesting times.
