you can see the poor bugger summoning the nerve to actually do it, which says to me that at that moment, deep in his heart..... he wasnt sure....

thank goodness we live in a better age, we can do computer modelling of the apparatus is question to determine if it works, the computer has done away with the need for this sort of "testing"
