Tales of bright white balls are plentiful and accounts of such balls following vehicles are not uncommon.

I often wonder how many of these white balls could be plasma.

Often people mention that they hear a humming sound. Is it possible for plasma balls to make humming sounds?
 
The only plasma balls that I know of are "ball-lightning." I know that it can burn a hole right through glass, wood and plaster. Wouldn't want to touch the stuff.
I've heard a second-hand tale of a rancher getting hit in the chest by a glowing orange basketball-size orb. He claimed he was closing a gate and the thing shot toward him, following the fence line and knocked him unconscious. I don't think he was burned, though, so it could have been something other than ball-lightning.
