What is a Technologist?

Paranormal Novice
Dear Gene and David,

Where do I start? Gents, you guys are a double edged sword. On one hand you occasionally ask a hard question which needs to be asked but most of the time you ask questions which are directly related to your personal opinion of your own personal abilities.

Firstly, What is a technologist? Is this someone who can use Google and has a couple of friends who sell consumer gadgets? Take it from my perspective. I studied Aerospace Engineering and my thesis was on ICBMs and Launch vehicles. I now design, install and commission Control Systems for Nuclear, Oil, Gas and Coal Power Stations (as well as many other industries). I have designed RF Electronics, Software Packages, network protocols and some microprocessor based devices. So when I hear someone say that they are a "technologist" because they know how to use an image application, or a new camera or maybe the latest Macintosh Marketing information, it seriously makes my stomach turn. And I know many people who are well beyond my knowledge base. Hearing you guys talk about how you guys have so much expertise in technology makes me shake my head and I am but one of many listeners who are in the R&D departments of the world's leading technologies.

And yes I know. I could be a garbage collector with a computer and a great imagination but the fact is that I am not.

The thing that separates me from many of my colleagues is that I do not limit myself to the boundaries of my academic education. I too
investigate the stories that are beyond what I can explain. This is what draws me to them. I do not like things that I cannot understand. I have not seen a UFO, Ghost or anything except a few vague unexplainable incidents. But I know people that I trust and they have and I believe them.

Just because you can replicate something using photoshop, doesn't mean that the image HAS been done that way. Just because you could throw a ball in the air and take a photo, doesn't mean that every photo is a ball.

An animal can leave a track and a human who is an expert at tracks can reproduce this track. This doesn't make all animal tracks fake.
We are happy to be wowed by your knowledge of photoshop or another application but please do not let your ego blur your judgement.

I know for a fact that you have done this to one investigator who is genuine. They truly are very close to some answers (or at least more questions) and have information that can help us understand at least one side of the UFO phenomena and you did nothing but tell everyone how great you are.

I don't know you guys personally (and I know I am putting you both in the same box here which is a little wrong of me) but I feel that you both were once something special in the paranormal/UFO community but have faded into obscurity without the acknowledgement that you think you deserve. But you guys are seriously destroying what you have left with each episode.

Yes there are more scam artists, mentally disturbed individuals, attention seekers and CD/Book sellers then there are authentic researchers but that one authentic person that you sweep under the rug with the rest could be the one with the truth.

You have an obligation to us as your listeners to do your best to give us the facts and present us with unbiased information. You also have an obligation to do a little research on the interviewees before you tear them down besides just looking for areas where you can tear them apart. Scepticism is healthy as long as it isn't biased by your egos.

And please.. stop trying to make your show a revenue stream. It will just stuff you guys up in the end. Get jobs where you are comfortable and make this stuff free without advertisements (and product placement.. yes we notice). We need a show where there is a critical eye but not where the motivation is to tear people down. Lies will unravel themselves.

And get that guy Andrew Basiago on.. this would be the only guy I would condone a full scale bullshit-a-thon.

Peace, Gadz

Excuse me, but do you know what "obligation" we have to you, or anyone else who listens to this show?

Zero. Nada. We have no contract with you, no promise, no responsibility to you, and you have the freedom to listen to us or not.

I'm not going to honor your rant with a listing of my own technological credentials, I have nothing to prove to you, no obligation to engage you in any discourse other than this short response.

So you don't like what we do, don't listen. It's that easy.

What a f*cking cheek you have, Gadzometer. If your own credentials are so spectacular, why not use your real name here so we can check them out? As you point out, anyone can claim anything about their own credentials - especially when they hide behind the shield of anonymity.

As for Gene and David's 'revenue stream' - do you know how much quality, reliable web hosting costs? We're not just talking capacity here, but bandwidth too, for both downloads and streaming. Crap web hosts, with shared hosting, are two a penny. Dedicated, reliable web hosting packages cost big bucks.

What's your real beef with these guys?

Sorry for the rant, Gene and David, I've had my fill of rude people today!

What a tool.

Probably the more-articulate brother of some bullshit artist who didn't look too good after being on the show. Dime a dozen.

People are entitled to their opinions. Lately, I've had enough experience with fakes, frauds, liars and hurtful, hateful horseshit to not give a damn anymore - and especially when the source is yet another anonymous flamer on the Internet. Fuck 'em.

Seriously, Dave and Gene stop trying to make so much money. Feed me the stuff I want. Stop beating up on all the genuine wacky researchers. Stop asking questions you want the answer to. And get those ads out of my way, they are distracting me. I'll email you a list of guests you are obligated to get on the show and I'll follow up with a list of questions you have to ask (because it is your obligation). And get rid of the commercials too, I don't want to have to use my finger to press the FF button, you know, calluses and all.

And BTW, for Christ sakes, stop charging me for all the shows you do. Free is just not cutting it, I'd really like some money back.

And if I get pissed off enough I'm might just do my own show, the way I want it, with the questions I want, with the guests I want, with the website I want, and the podcast I want. And I'll go ahead and pay for everything out of my pocket. .... wow, there's an idea.

Yeah, so much money that our last "major" influx of cash was enough to keep us eating at McDonalds for a month, right David? Yeah, what a racket. :D

I know for a fact that you have done this to one investigator who is genuine. They truly are very close to some answers (or at least more questions) and have information that can help us understand at least one side of the UFO phenomena and you did nothing but tell everyone how great you are.

And now, in your first post ever on this forum, you are telling us how great YOU are. Ironic, don't you think? I'm curious as to what 'genuine inevstigator' you refer to.

If you look at his/her message, he/she uses British English. So chances are he/she's a Brit, Aussie or New Zealander.

I think there are two possibilities around this, Gadzomoeter. Either you're a Billy Meier-ite (or whatever they call themselves), or similar ilk, just taking a drive-by shot. Alternatively, you're expressing some serious emotion under the guise of a very minor issue--use of the term "technologist"--which manifests itself in some very nasty and personal attacks on Gene and David. (Your defense of an unnamed investigator sure seems oddly incongruous and almost petulant.)

I, for one, would appreciate your cutting through the crap and getting to the truth behind that blast. What are you really getting at? I hope you're not as perturbed as you pretend simply because you object to experts in image analysis and computer technologies referring to themselves as "technologists". THAT would be weirder than anything I've heard on the The Paracast.

The OP isn't Korff, so please don't post his pic here, it makes me queasy.

Freedom of speech means that you can rant on a forum, and make a corresponding first impression. To address the complaints in that rant is a waste of time: anyone who listens to the show knows that we do as much due diligence on guests as anyone could or would want to, and on our own time. If we try to recoup a few bucks, well, welcome to paying for hosting. We're accused of claiming to be faded personalities of the UFO field, which is nonsense: we're folks interested in the paranormal, having conversations with others interested in these topics. I've been involved with tech from plastics and electronics from my youth, to computers and software, especially audio and graphics tools. If someone wants to complain that I'm not knowledgeable about specific fields of scientific inquiry, guess what, I can't be versed in all technology. I mean, get a damned grip. The whole point of the show is that we don't know squat.

Folks tend to have strong opinions about stuff, and the OP took the time to list a bunch of stuff, most of which I think is inaccurate. Thanks for listening, gadzopeter, enjoy your stay and try not to steal any towels.
