Measuring Carbon Footprint On Your Wrist

No doubt when this hits the market, people will be comparing figures and measuring their "worldbeing" measure, as a measure of self worth and validation. Hey guys for starters why not clamp down on the consumerism or at the very least shop locally instead of having Amazon bring it to you.

If you listen carefully you can hear my teeth grinding all the way over in NZ.. I like your post Wade, if people are worried about their carbon footprint then grow your own food and shop at your local unless there is no way you can get what you need from there.

You post this the same time I read this Britain faces longest winter in 50 years after earliest ever arrival of Siberian swan

Climate swings? ... just maybe the Sun has something to do with the climate change on Earth.. just saying.

"The Maunder Minimum, also known as the "prolonged sunspot minimum", is the name used for the period starting in about 1645 and continuing to about 1715 when sunspots became exceedingly rare, as noted by solar observers of the time."

By the way we are heading into one right now.. so lets see how this plays out because at this point I don't believe anyone anymore lol

Who knows what the hell is going on... interesting times my friend.

Interesting idea. But people just don't care enough. Basically the world is full of hypocrites who want instant gratification and whose first rule is look out for #1 ( themselves ). So when they go shopping they just want what they went to the store to buy. Even sales and coupons have a minimal impact on spending habits ( although some coupon apps have done well ). So if app users really want to lower their carbon footprint, they'd ditch their cell phone and forget the watch too. There is a huge worldwide industry that spits out tons of pollution and CO2 based on cellular technology:

The carbon footprint of using a mobile phone:
47kg CO2e: a year's typical usage of just under 2 minutes per day
1250kg CO2e: a year's usage at 1 hour per day
125 million tonnes CO2e: global mobile usage per year

bloody good point!
I see this sort of thing with the students I teach, they are online activists which in short means "Hey look at me I look like I am doing something" when in realty they are doing nothing to help at all.
As long as the new I-Phone is coming out and the beer is cheap enough they don't really care because they don't feel as if they are being affected directly by world which is odd as they see themselves as members of a global community.

Yeah I don't get it either.

I'm not excatly a lightweight in phone useage but its almost all data useage i very rarely go over 60 minutes per month if that, usually just during the holidays.

As much as i love having a cell phone on me in the end i recognize that it's just a handy convient tool/computer and i don't have to wait to get home to look into something.

But it hasn't gone unnoticed by me as to how much some people define themselves by their phones maybe even more than what we drive nowadays. I see more fanboy posts in various phone forums more than sporting forums and things seem to always get contentious where points of view differ, it's truly amaxing and interesting to follow. They seem to take it as a personal affront if someone points out a bad feature of a phone they favor or go into denial
