I saw that illustration earlier & had a chuckle. I was shocked to see my home state of Florida ranked so low on the list.

bah, new england is one of the most haunted areas of the US, CT here is crazy, many haunting reportings, weird cryptos, odd cursed places,etc rhode island and mass also crazy from my experiences

Interesting. Hard to see a consistent pattern as related to local culture and religion, etc. Except that the western half of the U.S. seems to lean a bit more toward the paranormal. New Mexico at #1 doesn't surprise me much. Wyoming at #2 does, somehow. So much for intuition !
