Who controls the government?

Hello all. I've been away from these forums for awhile, and had to register under a new username (not because of a conspiracy, but my own stupidity.)

Anyway, as much as I'm interested in the UFO phenomenon, I've recently been getting interested in politics on a deeper level. I hear a lot about groups like the Council on Foreign Relations and the Bilderbergs, and their supposed relationship to world governments.

I'm wanting to know what your opinions are regarding the "shadow government" in relation to American politics. Are the Republicans and Democrats (and the president for that matter) really puppets for people who exercise real control from behind the scenes? Or is all this conspiracy talk just a lot of hooey?

And lastly, what books would you recommend on this subject that present an objective look at the situation?

In my opinion:

1) The important decisions are made by a select panel of powerful people in the world.

2) Public opinion and that of lower-level "operatives" is swayed daily by the media, which is controlled and driven by the panel.

3) The basic idea behind it all began around the time of the latter crusades.

4) The USA was taken over by these people in the 1910 when the world's leading financiers met at Jekyll Island, GA to plot the takeover of the US banking system.

Digigeek - thanks for posting that video, it was a real eye opener and a bit of a letdown.

I say letdown because with all of that power held by the federal reserve and the government, and with the current political climate in which many people just want goodies from the government, I don't think it's ever going to change.

The more money politicians are able to throw at the people, the less inclined they'll be to hold their elected officials accountable, which in turn gives the politicians even more power.

I guess Wall Street really does rule America.

Is there a "shadow government?" Yes. I don't believe it will matter who wins the election tomorrow in this respect because I believe these organizations have infiltrated both parties and will be able to press on with their agenda irregardless of who is sitting in the Oval Office.

Yes, I agree. I just heard Obama say that he wants to create a civilian security force that will be as well funded, and as strong as the military. That statement would bother me regardless of what politician said it.

The right wing has screwed us, and now we're going to get it from the other side.

So, what are we supposed to do when our leaders are selling us out?

Good question. I like stormtroopers as much as anyone, but I really prefer them in their shiny, white plastic suits with names like TK-421. Maybe we'll at least get some star destroyers out of the deal.

Shadow goverment? The eight years of Bush and Cheney that is the real shadow goverment. They are the elite within a elite. They have cronnies behind the scenes pulling the strings.During the 2000 to 2001 election they left the shadows, and they entered the light of the white house, but what America got was darkness not light!!

They are power hungry, war mongers with hidden goals who probably now will go into hideing again, since there favourite son is no longer in power, but behind the scenes they remain.

I think its possible the Military "took over" during WW2 and never really let go.

if defending the nation is the Primary concern of all the concerns that might face a nation, then those whose job it is to do that, naturally hold the ultimate power
