Why is the number 1,729 hidden in Futurama episodes?

This is the part that really caught my eye:

"The young Indian savant would later say that many of his theorems were whispered to him in his sleep by Namagiri, an avatar of the Hindu goddess Lakshmi: "While asleep, I had an unusual experience. There was a red screen formed by flowing blood, as it were. I was observing it. Suddenly a hand began to write on the screen. I became all attention. That hand wrote a number of elliptic integrals. They stuck to my mind. As soon as I woke up, I committed them to writing."

I find the part where he talks about a "screen" the most fascinating, especially as Ramanujan died in 1920 long before Television was commonplace. It almost sounds like an LCD Whiteboard he is describing.

Humans like Ramanujan and Mozart are almost enough to settle the questions of reincarnation or non-locality of mind. Not quite. But one has to wonder.

I remember listening to an episode of the paracast with a guy called Richard Sauder, I might of misunderstood what he was saying, but he seemed to be suggesting that the "earth" and its atmosphere can and does record/store all events/happenings past present and future, and that it is "possible" to tap into this data bank. Again I am not sure that I understand this concept completely, but I think that maybe when people like Ramanujan slept, they were able to look through the "files".
Conversely maybe he (Ramanujen) because of his Hindu theology saw "lakshmi" maybe a devout christian would have seen "Mary" or "Jesus" and they would have helped him with his calculations. What I am trying to say is maybe he unconsciously used "Lakshmi" as a mechanism to solve the calculation he was trying to work out. And that he was generating it all, in terms he was familiar with. However I do find the fact that Oppenheimer quoted a "Hindu" text coincidental to say the least.

“Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds. (quoting the Bhagavad-Gita* after witnessing the first Nuclear explosion.)”
J. Robert Oppenheimer
