Sorry, but Gene was faster: Who knows? The X-Files is Coming Back... | The Paracast Community Forums

Seriously, though, I'm very sceptical if that's a good idea. Sounds like Chris Carter is going to write much of the mini-series himself. And although I'm thankful that he invented the characters and managed to sell the series to the TV producers in the first place, I'm not very happy with the scripts he wrote or had a hand in writing, especially the later ones. He should restrain himself to directing.

The wonderful self-ironic sripts and witty dialogues of a Darin Morgan or James Wong won't be saving the series this time around, I'm afraid.

Well, at least this gets the mind away from other things, I guess.

I was pleasantly surprised by last nights premier of the new X Files. It seems weird to me that i am writing "pleasantly surprised" being that i was a big fan of the original series...at least in the Mulder and Scully days...but being that the show is being done in todays timeline and the characters involved haven't had contact with each other in some 14 years that leaves a lot of needed time for the obliglatory exposititory "info-dump", but i thought they did a nice job with that and the show got into the new mythology with a couple of bangs.

Throughout the show it had hinted at that the last thing Dana Scully wanted to be dragged into was the reopening of the Xfiles but by the end it would seem that she might be the most determined gung ho principal of them all.

As far as the direction it seems to be going in i think it will be more "relatable" to the society of today, there was one montage involving some aspects which have been mentioned here in this forum that i don't think are known to the general public, i can imagine last night many viewers jumped onto the internets to google the things that were mentioned.

I liked it. It had a moody feeling that really worked..Mulder has been deeply depressed and I see the craft Duchovny put down. Lots of critics just chalked it up to the actors not caring, but I think it's the characters' emotions of despondency.
Anyway, I'm too psyched to see the Lone Gunmen alive. I'm glad that I didn't see Jump the Shark until yesterday.

I saw similar reviews and I would ask the reviewers have they paid any attention to the mood of the show or characters and what they've been through within the context of the series?

Well it looks like my boys are still dead based on my research on the Babylon episode.

Stilted dialogue from the past with a reboot of the original concept as Theory B - not aliens & alien tech, but evil breakaway humans & alien tech. Ho hum IMHO. Listening to Mulder at the end speaking in his usual meaningless & indignant aphorisms to Mitch with his new beard seemed rather trite in this attempt to recapture lightening in a jar. Much better writing is sorely needed as this plot structure and familiar tropes are not working well. I'd be surprised if new episodes get made as this was mostly a terrible rehashing of past events instead of innovating. I loved the previous show but find it hard to believe that this is the best he's got. After all this is the guy who brought us Millennium. That was experimental and sizzlingy climactic & bizarre. Too bad it ever ended, nor has the promised movie manifested. I wish Carter had put his energies into that project instead of going after the easy cream floating on top.

But is Mulder being deceived by this new info? I don't love Skinner's beard either but he's still awesome. I even liked season nine. A lot. They killed my heroes after killing their show. At least Frank got a happy ending:confused:

OK my issue is..if TLG are just coming back as part of Mulder's psychedelic trip, then why did they age along with everyone else!? I noticed Byers' beard was white in the on-set interview clip. Point being if they put a wig/blond extensions on Haglund, why didn't makeup dye Harwood's beard brown?

Next Monday 2/1 episode ( a creature of the week episode) is getting good mentions from several sources, it's written by Darin Morgan no less. TV Guide is calling it an insta-classic.

Here, on Facebook, other chat sites, etc. there is an extensive amount of chatter since the X-Files is back for its 6 episode limited run. I really find that rather funny. One would think this is huge news. Okay, fine. The X-Files is about a topic that many do find interesting.

I just received a note from Dr. Jack Sarfatti to his large email list talking about this very thing. Now, Sarfatti is usually concerned with some very esoteric science stuff .. but the X-Files? Each to their own I guess. However I wanted to set him straight and then I decided to place my note back to him ... here. A question ... where did Chris Carter (back in 1992-1993) discover things like Roswell, Men In Black, the Cahill case, secret government files on exotic energy, abductions, military/UFO encounters, etc. etc. etc. ?? Here is the note I sent back to Sarfatti and his list ...

" I find it very humorous .. all the chatter since the X-Files returned for a
limited run. My God! One would think this is of momentous import. It is simply a
freaken' television show. Granted, a television show about a subject that every
one on this list may find interesting ... but simply a way to wasted time
watching the boob tube. Its political slant? Whatever slant Chris Carter happens
to hold dear would be my guess ... Hey, prior to the original launch date of the
X-Files back in "92-93" Carter and his guys used to haunt the UFO Expo West held
here twice a year in Los Angeles ... and they would purchase every copy of our
magazine (UFO Magazine) we had for sale. Element 115, Roswell, the Cahill case,
Men in Black, secret govt. conspiracies etc. "ad nauseam" you can thank UFO
Magazine for it. Carter didn't.

Well it is pretty crappy that Chris didn't give you and your former mag some kind of credit Don and and it just a TV show yes but don't you think that Chris did bring to a wider audience things that would otherwise be off their radar. I'd even go as far to say as maybe making it more mainstream and thus more acceptable to a subject most people associate with supermarket tabloids.

I have never come across any studies but i'd be willing to bet a number of associated writers or publishers got a bump in their circulation numbers during the time that the Xfiles was broadcast.

But yes you should have gotten some credit or brought in as some kind of advisor.

Wade, please do not get me wrong. Did I enjoy the X-Files back in the 90's? You bet, especially the first several years it was a "do not miss" TV program. What you do not know is that I had an "in" with someone very close to the original production. I was aware of a lot of stuff behind the scenes. The thing that bothers me today is the overall euphoria surrounding the new limited series ... almost "as if" something important concerning UFOs will be discovered or released. This is just a beloved TV series that was re-released for just one reason ... "lets make a boat-load of money." Hey, there is nothing wrong with that .. maybe Carter needs a brand new Porsche. If there is a market for it, people will flock to it. My deal is simple, lets not make more of this than what it really is.

As far as I'm concerned the scene where the police turn up just as Melvin Frohike is about to club a little boy with a boltcutter is high art:p
