X-Files Series and Finale

Well The X-Files mini-series is now ended and I have to say I was underwhelmed and disappointed. I was never a big fan of the Monster of the Week stories and these new ones were bad in my estimation. To begin with, Duchovny looked bored and it seemed like he was sleepwalking through these episodes in order to pick up a paycheck. Gillian Anderson at least looked like she was acting. I was hoping more from Skinner and the Lone Gunmen but both were on the screen for such a short period of time.

The bad part was the stories themselves. The writers and Chris Carter only had to come up with six plots. I found them disjointed and weak. Did they really have to have clone Mulder and Scully FBI agents? The finale's last two minutes made me not want to revisit the program if they do decide to return for another small season. If you haven't watched it yet, let's just say I was waiting for the rope ladder to be lowered down. I was hoping for so much more when they announced the return of X-Files. Luckily it will be at least another year before we see Mulder and Scully (and maybe William) again.

I think putting up a cliffhanger without the slightest assurance the series would continue (unless they already knew it would) was a bad move. I'm not enamored of end-of-season cliffhangers that much, but the concept more or less got traction with the "who shot J.R.?" scheme in the days of "Dallas."

I did watch the episode on my DVR — after I saw "Supergirl," which was one of the best episodes of that series.

Overall, I agree. "X-Files" appealed to one's nostalgia, while bringing the conspiracy up to date. But to what end?

The problem with the X-Files conspiracy is that it has changed over the years. It went from the aliens out to get the human race, to now, the evil human cabal is using alien DNA to save some and for the rest, cull the human herd, so to speak.

Luckily, Scully has the solution. She just has to be allowed to return in the next X-Files mini-series and save the human race.

I liked the new season. I didn't have a problem with Duchovney's acting. As I've said in posts, Mulder is NOT in a good place. Depressed. I feel this is the approach to the character he went with. Or, you know, I'm wrong and he's a bad actor.
Agreed; Skinner didn't have enough role..
The Lone Gunmen appear to be in the twilight afterlife/paradise, but I want them to be alive.:(
Einstein and Miller aren't good but they're not that bad.
The worst part for me was the Lumineers song because I don't like the band.
I just started watching Millennium last night btw.

Mr. Fibuli watch Millennium from start to finish. It is the superior series in terms of writing, It is more au the anxiety and fears of middle class married America, but it explores the role of fear and evil in society in very unique ways, sprinkled with a good dose of social conspiracy. The closing episodes are genius, especially the end of the world Sonic Youth piece of psychedelia. The greatest TV tragedy was that this show was never properly finished.

Fox has a checkered history with shows of that sort. While "X-Files" got lots of promotion, that wasn't true for other shows with genre pretensions, such as "Firefly." "Sleep Hollow" is still on, but the show has become very muddled in presentation and plotting.

I thought episode 6, the finale, was just awesome...

I loved all the weaving of the twisted conspiracy theories w/human elites and ET, and the Alex Jones based character was a good update for what has happened with the Internet. Smoking Man is still awesome; now smoking from elsewhere -freaky.

The Sculley Mulder clones were just fantastic... a play-off of youthful memories from the 90's. Fun and funny... maybe a reach for a new series to continue too? Smart move to attract the younger audience too.

The Triangle UFO just shows the MIC is still involved with Hollywood trying to cover their old-new stealth tech as Aliens. Laughable this has been going on to change the shape for cover... Belgium Phoenix etc.

For a limited 6 part series I thought they did well but for one huge mistake... The terrorist plot was not useful or wanted, imo, and it wasted precious time for part 5. Terrible mistake! Should have stuck with the mythology. They really blew it and wasted an entire episode and screwed-up the story-line compressing it way too much by screwing with that crap.

I agree with DaveM that Mulder seemed too scripted and a bit mechanical like reading his lines for practice the first two episodes... I didn't really pick-up the idea that was because he was depressed, though I can see that may have been his attempt to project it that way. Poor acting for that one aspect.

Episodes 1, 2, 6 were my favorites, and 5 should have been part of a 2 part finish.

I wasn't nuts about the young agents. Loren Ambrose as a potential younger Scully overacted with overwrought expressions, not unusual for her. Robbie Amell, cousin of Steve Amell ("Arrow"), was just plain bland as a young Mulder-type. His character also seemed just a little too hesitant in his actions, as if he was very uncomfortable in the role, Not good casting.

I picked-up on the idea of it being funny and not serious with those two. The agenda was to appeal to younger viewers with a look towards extending the show for a longer run. I hope the series continues, and it won't bother me one bit when these clones return. There's "real potential" with their introduction and for future plot development.

I do agree with you that Firefly was an incredibly excellent show... perfect casting and characters. New style of speaking that was truly innovative... one of a kind. Amazing! How did they screw that up and end that series is beyond me. Tragic mistake!

I was OK with it. I'm also not a fan of the monster episodes. I'm hoping they return and I hope the mythology goes in the direction of secret program/breakaway. Carter was an attendee of the 2014 breakaway civilization conference in San Mateo. He sat in the front row and took copious notes. That was prior to the announcement of The X-Files' return but we all suspected that's why he was there. I don't have that much skin in the game but I'll watch it again if they come back.

Binge watching Millennium is sort of hard on one's psyche:eek:
It's a great show no doubt-I'm on episode 14, the intensity of Henriksen is great.
PS I realized the Lone Gunmen aren't really dead because Jimmy Bond is still out there:p
They should make a sequel series where Frank and Jordan work together to solve crimes.
