I found this footage on YouTube--it's around 45 seconds.

Here's the info:

About This Video

While hiking on an eco tour on the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica, this thing flew into my video camera's viewfinder. Not sure what this is, it barely made a sound. Military maybe? This event was filmed in May of 2007. If anyone knows what this is, please contact me.

Please have a look, and then come back and tell me what you think. I'm undecided and would like a few more sets of eyes to help me define if this is real or a fake.

Fake.

The initial movement of the camera in the shot is really smooth, it jerks and zooms to "follow" the craft and then returns to smooth motion. I'd say it is highly likely it is stock footage because the smooth, over jungle movement appears to be a shot from a jib (the long cranes that are built to hold cameras), the following motion appears to be a post production zoom on a section of the film (which would be a bit more evident if it wasn't a compressed clip on YouTube) and then it appears to the jib shot. So my guess is that they took a high quality piece of overhead jungle stock, put in some animation and then realized that it looked silly as the camera didn't follow the object and tried to fix it. First impression is also that the shadow doesn't line up right with the apparent position of the sun and there doesn't appear to be any highlighting on the edge of the "craft" as it rounds the mountain. I'm not looking for a glint or a flash mind you, just a bit of lightening around the edge as the craft rounds the mountain... especially because there is an apparent sun highlight on the front of the craft as it enters the frame.

This honestly looks like a kid with a decent, but not great, SFX program. Zoom in on the object and there appears to be render artifacts. I wouldn't be surprised if the shot was from some movie set in the jungle. The sound isn't very natural either (the ambient sound, I mean). Everything suggests it is fake.

In the YouTube menu after the video you uploaded ends, click and watch the video #5 from the left. Entitled "UFO in Costa Rica - Very clear, close encounter". Looks like a ver similar craft and shot. Probably an earlier attempt at the fake.

Do you think it's possible that even the background is fake? That it's not a background, but it's also rendered, too?

It's an embarrassing fake.

If this amateur took 2 hours to make it then it took a hour and a forty-five minutes too long.

1. Background plate distorts when panned. Lame attempt to make flat background look 3D. Looks like a still photo with a separate palm tree composited on top.
2. Scale of UFO does not scale correctly to match the distance of mountain as it recedes.
3. Atmospheric distortion does not look right for the distance as it flies away.
4. Lack of correct motion blur. Edges of UFO too clear for the quick motion.
5. Trees look like same type generated by same software as the Haiti UFO Hoax.

Cool, thanks for your opinions. I didn't have the necessary CGI 3D expertise to recognize these artifacts in the video. So, the consensus is, not only is it a fake, but it's a bad fake?
