What are your top ten books on the paranormal? (Bigfoot/UFOs/NDEs/OBEs/Ghosts/Cryptids etc). I'd be interested in finding out what posters have enjoyed reading and why. Which authors do you like to follow?

Thanks.

paranormal
par·a·nor·mal [pèrr? náwrm’l] adjective
impossible to explain scientifically: unable to be explained or understood in terms of scientific knowledge.

The core subject matter of ufology are alien craft. That is to say, some sort of engineered vehicle alien to our civilization ( but not necessarily ET ). This means that given sufficient scientifically valid evidence, it is not impossible to understand or explain them in terms of scientific knowledge, and therefore they're not a paranormal phenomenon. To clarify, this doesn't mean all the objects in UFO reports are alien craft, it just means that for the purpose of UFO studies, alien craft are what we're after, not ball lightning, glowing fairies, bioluminescent cryptozoological creatures, and such.

Maybe we shouldn't be using the term paranormal to describe the unexplained and instead use the word "anomalous".

Maybe the show should be called "The Anomacast" to more accurately reflect the subject matter it covers.

I think Psychedelic Alchemist is asking for the top 10 books covering anomalous topics.

I haven't read that many books on this subject, but the ones I recommend so far are:
  1. UFOs and the National Security State - Richard Dolan
  2. Alien Agenda - Jim Marrs
  3. Hunt for the Skinwalker - Colm Kelleher and George Knapp
  4. Intruders - Bud Hopkins
  5. Missing Time - Bud Hopkins
I've read others but probably wouldn't recommend them.

I am reading Limitless Mind by Russell Targ which I'm enjoying. I have plenty more reading to do...

You've got some real classics and first rate stuff in your list there. It's hard not to read Missing Time and think there's nothing out of the ordinary going on. On the issue of an all inclusive term, I think "Unexplained" is about as good as it gets. That's what Time Life used and that series covers the whole gamut. If anything it's a bit too wide because it includes unexplained scientific curiosities as well.

I've only read the Bible on your list.

Quite enjoyed Intruders and Missing Time, but Hunt for the Skinwalker was a little disappointing overall.

I've been trying to find an affordable copy of Valle's Passport to Magonia without luck so far. Are those other Valle titles worth a read? And how about Van Lommel's book?

ALL from Vallee are worth reading.Van Lommel is a cardiologist who heard these stories from his patients. In his book he investigates this phenomenon on a scientific basis. He did this in Holland and so i saw him in several radio and tv programs talking about his study.
It's allways the same with his opponents/doctors :'This can't be true , so it is not true' is all they can say : pathetic.
