Dear Listener,

I can’t tell you how much we appreciate your support over the years. As you know, The Paracast debuted on February 28, 2006. Within months, we seemed to catch on, and listeners labeled us “the gold standard of paranormal radio” for offering an honest presentation of the world of the unknown. This came at a time when most shows of this sort just placated their listeners with silly, unproven claims without asking the hard questions.

In 2010, we signed a syndication deal with GCN, a terrestrial radio network with hundreds of outlets. It meant that we had the prestige of being on regular radio in addition to our growing online presence.

It had downsides, though, although our GCN deal for The Paracast was better than other shows on other networks. Many of the smaller operations charge radio show hosts a monthly fee for distribution, but will give back a few minutes of ads to try to earn some money.

Our deal was barter. No money changed hands, and, for each episode, we got nine minutes of those ad breaks for our own use. Still, over 25% of the show consisted of ads, normal for the industry. With GCN, most of the ads embedded into the show belonged to them. Some of the advertisers we’d solicit had already made deals with them, so this reduced our income prospects.

We were able to negotiate a partial solution. In 2014, we convinced the powers-that-be at GCN to allow us to offer an ad-free version of The Paracast for paid subscribers.

Thus came The Paracast+. But just offering an enhanced version of the show with better audio and no ads wasn’t enough. So we created the bonus After The Paracast podcast. Without FCC restrictions, we had a freer choice of the interviews we presented.

As you know, old fashioned radio is suffering. There are fewer stations. Networks are consolidating, and smaller networks are shutting down. The latest is GCN, which closes as of May 5, 2024.

So where does that leave The Paracast?

On a new growth path.

We will still be available on Amazon, Apple, Google, iHeart Radio, Pandora, Spotify and loads of other podcast outlets just as before. We’re also making arrangements for enhanced distribution, so even more listeners will learn how The Paracast stands apart from other paranormal shows.

And, yes, it also means that we expect to be able to share the ad revenue The Paracast generates, making it easier to pay all those bills that are higher and higher due to worldwide inflation.

What’s more, those of you who continue to listen to the free show will get more value. Audio quality will be enhanced. There will be fewer ads, so you won’t have to spend nearly as much time in fast forward mode.

But The Paracast+ remains a great value.

Even with fewer ads, you’ll still be able to download a version of the show with no ads. We’re also enhancing After The Paracast so episodes will be longer, and more special content is being worked on. In other words, subscribing to The Paracast+ is an even greater value.

Indeed, The Paracast, now in its 19th year of weekly broadcasting, is here to say.

In the meantime, here’s how you can help us to live long and prosper:

Our Editor's Take

The Paracast - The Gold Standard of Paranormal Radio explores the unexplainable. This podcast features fascinating discussions about all things paranormal. Host Gene Steinberg examines UAPs, ghosts, and more. Joined by a rotating cast of hosts, he brings paranormal experts to the show.

On The Paracast, listeners hear from witnesses to and investigators of the paranormal. The show accepts the possibility that the supernatural is real. With every episode, listeners can suspend their skepticism. This show investigates remarkable claims in a measured way. Rather than blind acceptance, Gene asks guests for evidence. The researchers on the show bring stories of encounters and sightings.

Gene is a journalist and author with decades of experience. His career started in tech before he moved on to writing and broadcasting. In 2006, he created the radio show that would become this podcast. Fans of the show dubbed it "the gold standard of paranormal radio."

Opening the show and cohosting some episodes is announcer Bob Zanotti. A longtime friend of Gene, he brings over 30 years of experience as a radio journalist to the podcast. Cohost Tim Swartz is an award-winning TV producer and author of several books. Much of his career has focused on exploring theoretical science and the paranormal. Guest and cohost Curt Collins is a UFO investigator. He specializes in verifying and debunking UFO sightings. Together, the hosts explore everything on the fringes of traditional science.

The Paracast is a unique blend of paranormal topics. Gene's years of experience in broadcasting make him a skillful interviewer. His thoughtful questions elicit captivating responses from each week's guest. Guests on the show include Ron James and UFO researcher Chris Rutkowski.

The podcast aims to find the truth about aliens and other paranormal beings. These comprehensive discussions about the supernatural may challenge listeners' preconceptions. New episodes of The Paracast - The Gold Standard of Paranormal Radio come out every Sunday.

And one more thing:

We have converted the past six months of Paracast episodes to our new audio encoding and advertising setup. This means our show sounds better, and has fewer ads.

Older shows will be converted over time, but this is a manual process, and only works if we have the original files at hand.

That said, The Paracast+ remains a terrific deal; you get the exclusive, bonus After The Paracast podcast, now expanded.

We have reposted all 2023 and 2024 episodes in the new format with better audio and fewer ads. So if the ads got to you, you can download the shows again from our feed or via the online players we have posted here and on our site.

Longtime listener, off and on. Just subscribed to the Paracast+ to support you in the network transition.

Does anyone else kind of miss the quirky ads from GCN, though?

It wasn't that they were quirky. It's just that there were so many of them.

Our current layout has 60% fewer ads or better. Yes, they are more mainstream, and sometimes optimized to the area in which you live (such as Fry's supermarkets, the Kroger market in my area).

Better, though, is that we'll be getting a piece of the action once the ad structure is fully optimized.

Thanks for listening and your support.

I'm enjoying the new format with fewer commercials (and improved audio) and thanks for re-posting classic episodes. I've got family and personal stuff which means I'm in the car at least 3 times a week usually, and this gives me some more options of stuff to listen to while I'm travelling back and forth. I'll probably sign up for Paracast+ or do the subscription in spreaker in the near future.

The advantage of signing up to The Paracast+ in our forum is that you get a larger library of episodes and features plus the ability to subscribe for longer periods (at an average lower price per month).

Thanks for listening.

Stupid question, maybe, but do I need to worry about compatibly with certain podcast apps if I subscribe through the forums?

So long as they allow you to manually add a URL requiring a login, which is fairly normal.

You'll see instructions when you sign up. What podcast apps do you use?

I don't follow Android apps so much. Check its specs or write the developer and see if there's the ability to add a custom URL with a login. It's not an usual feature.

I use Podcast Addict on an Android device, and the feed has worked perfectly since I signed up. It was easy to add the URL and log in to access the feed.
