I live in the real world, and the fact that this whole bit of drama came up after the March 29th episode speaks volumes to the reasons why.
 
I'm not gonna get into the personalities either cause I don't know any of the people involved on a personal level. I do agree that simply calling a podcast or a researcher names is a typical "debunking" mess that people like jimmy randi do to smear with a broad brush. As for getting banned it wasn't that long ago that a certain mod here who didn't like something I posted asked me if I was a "spy" :eek: A spy? what in the name of heaven would I be spying on? An open forum? Anyway, that particular mod is no longer associated with the board but it did leave a taste for awhile and caused me to consider leaving the whole mess behind. I'm one of those folks who "seek" to learn and also to be entertained on a podcast/forum. I'm neither a "true beleiver" or an "atheist" or a atheist that pretends to be a skeptic like randi. So, I hope all these folks make up but I'll continue to listen to the Paracast and visit the boards unless of course I'm banned for being a "double naught spy!" 8)

Well, I have no opinion of Jeff's technical qualifications. If others say he is a top notch image analyst, I'm cool with that, insofar as it even matters. I went over there yesterday because I was interested in the mikec vs mike thing and wondered what had happened and what I might be missing or overlooking. I had been defending mikec pretty stronlgly and felt I owed it to myself to take a step back and see if there was anything to the other side. Well, I found out easily enough, and while I was there I took a look at this J&J accuatory thread. It's a really good example of jumping to conclusions with no evidence. It's also quite volatile and unrestrained.

I think those of us who were aware thought there might be something amiss with J&J and the Paracast, as I suggested in a thread on Dolan. We got these immediate and volatile denials which, from today's perspective, are totally BS. To David's credit, he remained circumspect about this and did not divulge anything until today. J&J, however, were not so circumspect, as a quick perusal of their board will show.

I call that immature and juvenile, as is the so-called humor of their show. Yeah, that's subjective. If you like it, by all means subject yourself to it. My grandson likes fart jokes, too. He thinks they are pretty funny, but he's ten years old. For those with only a limited amount of time to spend on this subject, it can easily be skipped. If that is what passes for quality in this field, it's a pretty low bar they've set. No one is going to ultimately take them seriously unless they clean up their schtick. They may actually have good guests in the middle of their carnival sideshow. I can only hope they listen to an episode before hand so they know what they are being associated with. These guys, in my opinion, are not funny.

And they really need to get over themselves. And, no, J&J. I don't care what you have to say about this review. Every time you react like that, you show your colors.

You suck. It's dull gray, and omnipressant here. WHERE THE HELL IS THE SUN AT??? IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE SPRING. If it was nice outside, I wouldn't be inside ranting on a forum. I'd be outside barbecueing or something. Most likely something.

At any rate, I'm going to go make some tacos. Good tacos too, not like that crap from Taco Hell.

Unless Gene lied to me, it's different here. No IP bans from what I can tell. Remember Showflake?
 
Oh yes...

I don't know what practices this site has, but I know that if I set up a forum, I can find an IP address and ban it. Depending on the software though.

We can ban via username, email address and IP if we want. We have the same tools as any other large forum.

We ban only under extreme circumstances. We have a tight Terms of Service, as many forums do, but we are also quite lenient in what we allow in the real world. If someone fouls up, it's largely the result of message spam or the sort of behavior that is way beyond what anyone would regard as acceptable.
