An open letter/challenge to UFO Digest/Nussbeck

Paranormal Adept
I just sent off this email to Dirk Vander Ploeg, the publisher of UFO Digest. I urge Paracast listeners and forum members to email Dirk at [email protected], and let him know of your desire to see this challenge posted and met. Thanks.

---------------------------

Dirk,

I see that you've blocked my messages on the image threads on UFO Digest, calling Nussbeck to a public challenge to provide details of his professional background, image analyst credentials and highly questionable image processing "methods", all the while providing Nussbeck with a platform to continue making unsubstantiated claims regarding otherwise mundane photographic images. If you have any sense of objectivity and are honestly interested in constructive, productive dialog regarding the UFO topic, then you'll post this challenge in it's entirety.

To Ronald Nussbeck: as the co-host of the highly popular Paracast paranormal internet radio show, and a widely recognized visual effects and image processing expert, I challenge you to a public disclosure of your professional background and your claims to be a scientific image analyst. You have never provided any meaningful (or even cursory) details of the techniques you deploy in your analysis of images you've presented to the public. You have come to what many feel are totally unreasonable conclusions regarding images you claim to have analyzed. You have called for public participation in disproving your techniques, so in the interest of full disclosure, I challenge you to come forward and provide the information which would allow you to back up the claim of engaging in "scientific" inquiry. Failure to do so will be taken as a tacit admission of a complete lack of credentials, relevant background or any type of objective image processing techniques, and clarify your contribution - or lack thereof - to the field of serious scientific UFO research.

Valiant effort. Unfortunately if my suspicions concerning UFO Digest are right, you will not even be shown the common courtesy of a reply. I think these two belong to the same guild.

The chances of Nussbeck or UFO digest responding to a question of credibility, is about the same as other frauds in the business coming clean about what they do.

Nussbeck doesn't want to live in his mom's basement forever, so he's never going to own up to his lack of credentials.

Here's the letter I sent. I kept it brief and to the point.

'I think Ronald Nussbeck is completely full of shit. I hereby officially challenge him to a rasslin' match. '

Just a suggestion to anyone thinking of emailing UFODigest: Try to make it civil. If you insult UFODigest or Nussbeck - or put David up on a pedestal - all they will do is insta-trash it.

Try to make it sound genuine and curious about Nussbeck's methods, as well as slightly confused why the wouldnt want to do all they can to verify his 'techniques'.

Just my 2 cents.

You are right. I'll send a 'pologie.

Here it is.

I apologize for my coarse manners. I don't really wanna rassle Nussbeck. I do still think he is a fucktarded dildo brain, but I wish him only good luck.

Has anyone seen this article over at the UFO Pukefest site? It's a response to Nussbeck's mother ship and orb pic, where the writer analyses and debunks the image. Take a look at the comments section - the hostility of Nussbeck and others is very telling.

It seems that site attracts a lot of zealous and blinkered true believers, who resist any logical explanations for UFO sightings, and declaim anyone who controverts them, as debunkers and government disinfo agents. Ugh. It's times like these that we could really do with a 'puke' smiley.

Just fired this off, for what it's worth.

Dear sir,

With regard to the recent challenge set by Mr David Biedny to Mr Ronald Nussbeck.

As I am sure you know all about this issue I wont waste your time detailing it all again. My concern is very simple.
Mr Biedny's request, is in my humble opinion more than reasonable. Especially in light of his own credentials in the field of image analysis. I am somewhat confused as to why you would block his contributions on any thread on UFO digest, and feel you are making a grave error of judgement. Again in my humble opinion it would seem to be a far wiser move to allow Mr Biedny to make posts on your boards, and to encourage full and open disclosure of Mr Nussbeck's background and experience, (freedom of speech and freedom of information) spring to mind. As it seems to me that if ufology itself cannot get it's own house in order, and be open, honest and above all scientific in it's methods. Then I see little hope for any kind of disclosure from any government, let alone any real understanding of the phenomena itself, and we will all be no further forward for many years to come. Very frustrating.

Anyway I would like to take this oppurtunity to wish you well with all you do, and I thank you for your time in reading this message.

Regards,

Mark Wright. (Proud Paracast Forum member)

I'm waiting for the day, or year to come where David gets the straight story from these clods.

Never going to happen though.

@ David Biedny

Hi there. I am one of the two guys that together managed to pretty thoroughly debunk one of the images that Ronald Nussbeck has recently been promoting on UFO Digest (it wasn't taken by him, but apparently by a MUFON director, no less, for added "credibility", so I am not sure if this qualifies for his $100,000 challenge - not, of course, that I would ever expect to see a penny of it anyway). See:

http://www.ufodigest.com/news/0409/image-analysis.php

Since then I have mainly been busy with other matters elsewhere, but I have also been able to devote some small amount of my time to investigating the elusive Mr Nussbeck himself and I wonder if you might be interested in some of my discoveries, if only for possible future reference should you be unfortunate to tangle with him again.

Having read your previous thread concerning Mr Nussbeck and now this one, I am not sure if you realize that he actually tries to make money, both directly and indirectly, from the so-called "PPP" (aka "APPEP") process that he promotes - i.e., he asks for donations; invites visitors to submit their UFO photographs to be given the PPP treatment (in return for an undisclosed fee); and he also uses traffic attracted to his sites by their sensationalism to try to sell "related" merchandise (i.e., toys, costumes, and novelties). I think it is more likely to be this income that he is trying to protect with his legalistic bluster rather than the probably paltry income that he gets from selling his books online. His main webpages (the only ones that I have been able to find) are these:

http://www.profindsearch.com/proof_that_aliens_exist.htm

http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/view/80661
[Note that here the promoter of PPP is one Ian Brockwell, who also happens to be the owner of Profindsearch.com. I might suspect them of being one and the same person except that Mr Brockwell's English seems too good by comparison with that of Mr Nussbeck.]

http://retecool.com/uploads/mirrordir/flight_175_cockpit_9_11.html
[If you are not too outraged by the exploitation involved, then this is the really funny one. Note also the convoluted disclaimer at the bottom.]

I'm not sure either if you realize that Mr Nussbeck is not claiming to be the inventor or practioner of the PPP process himself, but rather only its promoter. The name of the inventor of the process is given on the various PPP sites as either Ron Stewart or Ron Montgomery/Stewart. The forward slash between the last two name components had me baffled until I realized what it actually meant: i.e., Ron Stewart Montgomery. (A strange way of disguising a name, but then what isn't strange about this case?) After discovering this, I immediately had success in tracking the guy down. I was, of course, looking to see if he had any scientific credentials. The answer to that was: none that I could find (except, see below). But I did find records of him giving a lecture to the San Antonio Bible-Based Science Association (SABBSA), which is basically a Creationist group, on the subject of Mt Ararat and Noah's Ark. See:

www.sabbsa.org/newsletters/2006/sabbsa_June2006.doc

Quote from the newsletter: "The focus of our last meeting was photographs which had been blown up and enhanced by Mr. Ron Stewart Montgomery of Gonzales, Texas. Mr. Montgomery has a process of blowing up photos beyond the grain limit and getting minute details out of them not previously possible. We reserve judgment on whether or not his process is giving us dependable pictures of what is there till an expedition is sent to the place on Ararat where he believes a piece of the Ark may reside."

It seems that even the Fundies weren't overly impressed concerning the veracity of Ron's "process". Maybe that is why he decided to concentrate on the more dependably credulous UFO crowd.

I soldiered on looking for Ron's credentials and eventually found this profile apparently typed by his own hand:

"RON S.-(Stewart)MONTGOMERY -CURRENT ACTIVITIES : I am an explorer, researcher, author, inventor, and have backgrounds in religion, history, ancient history with an emphasis on archaeology.Plus, understanding how to read and translate ancient “picture writting scenes”-(the first written known forms of simple human communication) in relation to various Semetically related Languages.I also have further backgrounds in photography/imaging,and numismatics.Plus exposure to paleontology, and geology."

The (entirely unedited) quotation comes from:

http://jwest.wordpress.com/2008/03/22/oh-this-did-make-me-laugh/

It is well worth reading this short critique (and comments) in full, for the
drubbing that they give Ron for his abuse of English. Could it be (and I am merely musing aloud) that Ron is Ronald (and vice versa)?

Now then, how does Christine Dickey fit into all of this...?

Nice one Arcesileus, and welcome to the forums,

Like you said though, A snowball in Hells chance, of ever seeing any thing to back up these PPP claims let alone any payouts to debunkers. And that hooded arab nonsense
just cracked me up.

Peace,

Mark

Where does this Nussbeck jack-off live? I smell more than a phony. This is sponsored bull-shit. Nobody makes this up on their own.

In reference to my last post,

I knew I had seen that hooded arab, somewhere before.

Enough with the bogeymen, Please.

Mark
