anti troll suggestions

Set up the fourms so;
1.new members can not send privates or post on profile fror 1 week.
2.new members messages will not apper unless appoved by a moderator.this will last for 1 week.
3.all private emal contacts are hidden from new members for 1 month.
3.new members may not start a tread for at least a week.
Any one else have any ideas?

That's one way to deal with the Troll scourge, but isn't that a little rough on the genuinely new posters? I don't know, maybe not.
I think a button for instantly reporting abuse to the moderators would be useful.

private members forum for people who have joined before 2010 and for new posters who have made say 100 new posts without being a douche or banned. that we we have a place to discuss stuff wthout being bothered plus we coud add people who are vouched if need be. it would also encourage people to contribute too.

I don't think it's necessary if we just get one or two trolls, or one person who keeps coming back in a new guise. If it gets worse, that can be changed.

What I've found lately is a few skeptics on the forum who seem to ride the fine line between discussion and trolling. If this is the same one I recently complained about then it's more than a simple troll. That kind of content can compromise your site's attractiveness and repel advertisers. Repeated acts constitute a form of harassment that is legally actionable. If you have the evidence and know who it is, and they are in the USA, the thing to do is have your lawyer draft a cease and desist letter and if it continues, report them to the authorities and nail them civilly. If they aren't in the USA, you might still be able to get their ISP to ban them.

We are talking about people abusing the forum here seven, not people we happen to disagree with or even find disagreeable.

The forum is being attacked by someone with a severe mental and emotional problem. That person should get professional help and stop looking for whatever release they are after by acting like a complete scumbag in the forum.

But Gene is correct unless we get a real troll flood just ignore the idiot.

Trolls feed on the attention so simply ignore the poster as much as possible and PM one of the mods.

That is about all you can really do when it comes to trolls on a board, but I do not really see this idiot we have been seeing of late as a real troll.
Real trolling is an art and this guy is a beginner at best.

The use of proxy shows some knowledge but there are plenty of blogs etc out there that can show you how to set proxy's up.

Peace all and try not to let the fail troll get to you as that is just what it wants.

In a way even bringing up the subject is sort of self defeating...and I guess I'm not helping matters by weighing in...because by admitting they are disrupting things we are acknowledging the troll is making an impact and validating his existence, and giving him definite cause to try again, although he probably will try again regardless. he is not looking for our approval. And he doesn't even need to be a current member. all he had to do is type The Paracast Community Forums and see that we are bringing satisfaction to his life. Hows that for pop psychology 101.

So mr. troll if you are reading this I am of the opinion that you are a rank amateur when it comes to being a disruptive force and your shtick pales in comparison to the acts of one of our own that went rogue a few months back. If you really want to make a negative impact try the kiddie pool, i.e one of the c2c related forums

Well put Spooky that is it in a nutshell.

I have seen what happens to a forum that gets a real troll attack and it destroys the community.
The thing about all of us in here is that we are bigger than this and smart cookies for the most part so that is not going to happen unless we get a real troll flood and even then I doubt it will kill this community.

We have a rank amateur so ignore it like you would an ant unless studying trolls is your thing.
