Anyone else see moving dots?

KEROUAC

Skilled Investigator
My young daughter and my son recently asked about the small dots which appear everywhere which they mentioned matter of factly as if everyone could see them. I replied that I didn't know what they meant but when I thought about it I realised that I too can see this and I wondered if this is something that all adults can see but do not remain conscious of. i.e our minds discard it as surplus information.

I would liken it to the effect you get when you pull an ariel out of a tv it's almost like background interference with minute particles dancing about. It's only noticeble when you really look for it. The effect for me is hugely more noticeable in a slightly darkened room. I mentioned it to a friend who suggested orbs but these particles are minute dots that I see. My kids also mentioned that they see coloured dots which I don't see. Is it possible we are seeing tha actual particles that make up matter?

Is this just normal? Do we need to get our eyes checked? :)

I actually used to see something similar! little black dots would float into my field of vision sometimes, and other times I saw what was like little bolts of lightening, which would kind of dance in front of my eyes! Kind of strange, but I never thought too much about it. I just figured that it was something to do with the electromagnetic field of the human body. It doesn't happen very much anymore....

Thats weird, i have seen stuff like that also. I have always put it down to either my eyes or something being produced by my brain, still could be. For must people, they will think we are crazy, talking about such stuff, so i never mentioned it till know on the forums.I have also seen shapes and dots also but very faded they disappear very quick. When i am very tired, very exhausted and when i close my eyes, i begin to see things in my head like visions. I am really worryed, even mentioning it because of the ridicule factor. It happens to me, i just dont know why, i can accept people, will thing i am crazy, but it does happen to me, so it my problem not yours.

I believe those are cells sloughing off the inside of the eye and refracting light. Some people have them so badly that it require laser surgery to lessen them, although I think the tendency is genetic and they are likely to come back again.

I have had my eyes checked, they are not perfect, but they are ok.The person who did the test, siad they were fine. Yet to be honest, i still open to different suggestions, to what it could be.

It just weird seeing things like this for people, i actually get quiet scared. when it happens. I have also seen what the other two forum members have seen and different things also.

I actually, hope it isnt something more serious to do with me medically, but i have had it since i was very young, so surely something would have happened by now.

I have 20/20 vision. In fact, sometimes I can see things like signs on buses from really far off. I used to smoke a lot (now I only have the odd one) and back then was when I saw the dancing lights a lot. I sometimes thought that it was linked with health in some way.

I know there are things called floaters where you see a small shape move across your vision but what I am talking about is a real uniformed even effect a bit like the graininess of sandpaper. It is on everything I look at but as I say I am not always conscious of it or I think it would drive me crazy.

Interesting thoughts, I did smoke, when i was a teenager but i dont know, how could smoke effect 'you in such a way' to cause you to see things. It a interesting thought though,I dont know, if this has ever been looked at. I have it all my life, the teenager years was when i smoked, i am off them over 15 years now.

Never heard of floaters Kerouac until now, i never discussed this with anyone before except my wife. She smokes, but she didnt understand, what i going on about, she never seen anything.
It a quiet difficult to talk about such things, withount actually sounding a bit crazy. It amazed to me even that people other then me have seen such things.

Hi Irishseekers is the effect that you experience the same as I have described? And is is more pronounced in the dark?

I don't know if it's crazy to talk about it - there's probably a scientific explanation. It's not like we're saying that these lights are spirits communicating with us, or anything like that.

I used to see little black dots too that used to float across my vision, and sometimes dart around when I tried to pin point one of em. It probably is some wierd vision thing. But with the lights, because at the time I was dranking and smoking a lot (college years:rolleyes:), and my health wasn't the best, i linked it with that.

The fact that I'm in better shape now and I don't see that stuff often, or even at all, that makes me think that it might have something to do with my health. Who knows? Am I grasping at straws?

Never had any graininess though, I'm afraid to say.

Yes it happens more in the dark, maybe the explantation is there. Am, but i see things in daylight also, but not as frequent as in the dark. What conor,' siad he saw' i see more in daylight, rather than dark.

I not much of a drinker, rarely drink maybe once a month, of course the irish have a terrible reputation for drinking, in alot of cases well founded. My parents dont really drink, so i guess i was influenced a little by there habits. Am i dont know, if that could be the case with you conor.I think it would require a study to find out how many people actually have this and maybe we could get somewhere then.

I used to see colored spots, they appeared more like pixellation in my vision. I don't see them any longer. Now I do have periods where I have a cloudy spot in my vision that drifts around. I attribute them to particles (floaters) in the viscous fluid in the eyeball.

As already mentioned, they are 'floaters' (Wikimedia Error). Not wanting to make people uncomfortable, I remember reading years ago that most floaters are cells from our mother's womb. Everyone has them, just not everyone notices. I'm guessing the 'little black dots' are part of the same thing. Alternatively, they could be the 'rods and cones' firing away in the kids' vision? I try not to notice stuff like this cos you spend the rest of the day being distracted by it! :D

Yep, I have the floaters and the "grid", too. But I'm able to completely tune it out.

Funny, I never considered it odd. I thought everybody has it. Just as a side: did you know that different races have different structures of the optic nerve?

All the best,

swatcher

What do you mean "cells from our mother's wombs"? Do explain...

My younger brother had some sort of degenerative eye condition when he was a kid. He used to point at "dots" and ask what they were. He seemed stumped when other people couldn't see them. He's had a few surgeries and I think he sees better than me now.

Those floaters are extraterrestrials from Planet XYZ who are infiltrating the human species by jumping into our eyeballs via the air (yes, those black dots) when the 'initiate' is in close contact with one of their 'host containers' (a human 'floater' carrier). :)
Hope this helps!

Cheers for clearing that up for me.

Now I know;)
