I agree. But there are degrees of being informed, and if you do those things you mentioned you will definitely be more informed than someone who didnt.

But that point you just made there has nothing to do with taking issue with Bassett for giving charlatans a platform to spew their brand of BS.

I can't believe I have to explain this metaphor: The ground is level. I dig a hole, so now there's a hole in it. I fill in the hole, now the ground is level again. I might as well have not dug the hole. I have expended energy and lost time but nothing has changed. I would have been better served by either not bothering or doing something different.

Bassett is doing something. He is enabling scores of charlatans along with the occasional credible person. Thus ensuring the 7 to 1 noise to knowledge ratio continues as it has for decades. Bottom line, if you endorse shit peddlers then nobody cares when you present the real deal. Bassett and his conference is a continuation of the problem not the solution. If you haven't learned that by now, then you are blinded by idealism. IMHO.

Answer this:

You suggest doing nothing is more than doing something, even if that something is not perfect.

Answer this simple question:

(as you suggest) How can doing nothing (like me and you) get something accomplished?
