I just caught the tale end of the latest press conference at the end of the X Con 2009, it was just airing live on CNN.com.

I only saw the last 15 minutes or so, but at the very end, Bassett essentially threatened the U.S. government, stating that if they didn't disclose "the ET presence" by May of this year, he was was going to deploy his vast army of morons, inbreds, troglodytes and Payola Harris' ample ass to swarm the media and deluge the airwaves with "documentary evidence". What a sad little sack of a man, looking rather desperate and trashed, trying to sound serious, attempting to drum up some sad semblance of gravitas, he doesn't seem to realize just how pathetic and idiotic he comes off in front of a camera. He'll freeze in hell before his vision of disclosure comes true, you can quote me on that. What a frikking tool.

This reminds me of y'alls' latest interview with Basset. He says something along the lines of how disclosure is imminent because the government is surrounded on all sides by youtube videos. Very sad. I think Basset could become emotionally unhinged very easily. Oh my, I just had an excellent idea for a comedy short story.

On the other hand, pushing his Barnum and Bailey circus on the media might clean up the act ;) .... or not :D

as you may know, i just attended the xcon this weekend.

let me preface this by saying this was my first ufo or paranormal conference of any kind.

all i can say is... what the fuck?

i heard a few good speakers (ie hancock, pope, mitchell) and some really not so good ones. i had a blast hanging out with everyone, met some super cool new people, and dont regret going at all.

BUT

if bassett thinks that this whole charade will somehow lead to disclosure, he is sadly mistaken. it was painfully obvious to me, only functioning with slightly more than half a thimble's worth of intelligence, that the entire weekend was nothing more than:

A) a way to make money for his "movement" (the image of bassett counting out a 3-inch high stack of cash at the registration table while an attendee was patiently waiting to get his attention to receive his day pass will stick in my head for quite a while)

B) a way to bring together "big names" in the field to act as a nice backdrop for him to get in front of the media and spew out his disclosure bullshit

C) a place for certified nutjobs to come and suck on the tits of the even more crazy "big names", and feed their need for "proof" and "evidence"

the single defining moment came, for me, on sunday morning, during the presentation given by astronaut Edgar Mitchell (who i have to say did nothing short of floor me with his knowledge of quantum physics and theories and how it all may relate to a larger, less tangible explanation for many of the phenomena being discussed this weekend):

i am transcribing, verbatim, from my voice recorder, as mr. bassett gave his opening remarks for the day before dr. mitchell took the stage:

Basett: "CNN International called, and wanted an interview with Edgar tonight. We don't know if we're going to do that...Ill have to talk to Edgar about that. I think its inappropriate."

at that point, several of us looked at each other, with a look of "huh?" on our faces. Inappropriate? why?

later, during the Q&A session, bassett brought up the issue once more. again, i quote verbatim:

Bassett: "...the other thing i want to add is this...CNN international called last night, and they wanted you to be on television with them at 4pm this evening [[sunday]], as you know. Ive told you. we have agreed that im going to call them and point out that we cant do that, because if he goes on tonight, hes scooping the press tomorrow at the press conference and i think thats inappropriate. and we will suggest to them that ok, we can go on tomorrow night [[monday]]...so we'll see what happens there."

at that point you can hear me simply saying "woooowwwww".

i dont think its very difficult to understand what is going on here. so, enough said.

ill be throwing together some thought, impressions, and audio from this weekend in a future episode of the noosphere.

Oh shit, whats he gonna do? He and his minions are all gonna bombard the media with email links of youtube UFO clips. BAM!

Actually, I think it is. Because I think everyone will agree that what this field needs now is another self styled "Researcher" to jump in and "clarify" the subject matter. Sometimes, not saying anything is the smarter move. .... Now, if I can only follow my own advice....

Listen, I understand your overall point. Better to be in the fight than bitching on the sidelines. I get it. But, it ain't that simple. The greater media isn't going to take him seriously because he has surrounded himself with the Greers of the world. No matter what he does he will always be shown to support frauds and charlatans. Therefore, what can he offer?

There are better people and better organizations that deserve your adulation. For a guy who's job it is to be political he has failed the number one lesson in politics, choose your friends wisely!

In politics, you're judged by whether you succeed in your chosen goal. By this measure, Bassett has failed miserably. What makes matters worse is that he and his ilk drag the serious researchers down with them in the eyes of the general public.

Of course, the real problem with Bassett et al is they base all their entire program on a flawed conclusion, that can't be proved to the satisfaction of anyone who matters - that aliens are visiting Earth from some other planet(s), and that they are interacting with our governments.

But Bassett's biggest problem is that he's an egomaniacal loser. Nobody - NOBODY - of any consequence is ever going to take him seriously. Any notoriety he has comes solely from his sad glomming onto others of stature. And you may quote me on that.

Oh gawd, its all so insane. doesnt he realise how ridiculous that notion looks? Surely if he had anything of real value he would release it now so his conference has some reason for existing in the eyes of anyone but Greer-sheep and paid lecturers.

That's the great irony with these guys - they lambaste the government for withholding UFO information, but then they do the exact same thing - withhold information they claim to have until the time is right, in their eyes, for its release, i.e. the time that's right to maximize their profit from it.

If the government is involved in some super-duper cover-up, at least they're doing it for national security reasons. Bassett, Greer et al are just doing it to make the most quid, and gull the greatest number of suckers.
