Crop Circle Artist Matthew Williams

Free episodes:

Questions for Mr. Williams:

1. What is the ultimate message that the circle makers are trying to impart with their work? Is it just 'art' for art's sake, or is there a deeper, perhaps subconscious message, that lies at the heart of the phenomenon?

2. If we accept that the vast majority of, if not all, crop circles are man-made, why do the circle makers continue to make them? What do they gain from making crop circles? Is there any financial incentive involved, or is it just a competition between different groups of circle makers to see who can design the most impressive crop circles?

3. Do you believe that all crop circles are man-made, and if not, what evidence do you have to suggest otherwise?

Thanks.

1) To what degree are you, or other crop circle makers, influenced by certain movements? Specifically, I'd like to know if you are aware of the Situationists, who figured out that they could bring enlightenment to groups of people, by covertly joining them only to act as human mirrors to reveal problematic aspects of the group, to the group members themselves. Did you want to reveal something, or show something, perhaps enlighten someone? Or rather the opposite, bring 'magic' to people's lives? Do you feel a moral calling of some kind?

2) It is my impression that many of the symbols we see pictured are either geometric or mathematical figures, which are pretty neutral in message, they don't seem to mean anything. Or, they are some ancient symbol, for instance a celtic symbol, which makes sense, I guess, if circle makers grew up in England listening to Led Zep or traditional folk music, or something with similar roots. But is it also because patterns with a lot of symmetry are the easist to plan and produce? Or why are the motives typically of similar sorts?

3) Patterns rarely seem to constitute original 'art' with an attempt to communicate something unique, or human, or political, or whatever. Has there been any contact with the established art-world, and did they ever show any interest? Do you think crop circles often deserve the label 'art'?

4) What would you say if I called crop circles 'country grafitti'? Do you feel a connection to graffiti artists?

5) When we see crop circles, one thing I always notice is that they always intersect a wheel-track in the field, allowing the circle makers to get in and out without making tracks. Are there any known circles whose edges lay significantly beyond the range of ladders tied together, and where no pathway was visible? Have you ever attempted to make a circle without exploiting a ready-made path?

6) If you or others actually managed to attract attention from something/someone unknown, why do you imagine that corn circles would attract it more than for instance some gaudy neon display at night? Also, if so, have you or someone you know tried to respond, or take up 'conversation' either by drawing something or flashing lights or whatever? If so, what did you communicate? And did it respond?

7) If you've seen weird stuff, do you think it's just a matter of being more exposed to the outdoors at night? Have you taken an interest in astronomy and so forth, because of nighttime exposure, or is everyone actually too busy to consider anything but the task at hand?

8) Some people claim to have seen 'shadows' in the corn, do you agree that this is likely caused by moonlight shadows (which are sometimes very flat), for instance shadows of unseen animals in the distance, or by other non-mysterious shadows?

9) Related question: Have you ever been thoroughly spooked in the dark only to find a mundane explanation? Have you often experienced that your senses betrayed you in the darkness?
(I grew up in the country, far from the nearest street-lamp, and spent lots of time fishing or just walking home through fields and woods in the dark, it always surprised me how the commonest thing could look completely distorted and ominous in low light. I think I enjoyed it actually, the magic strangeness of the un-lit world at night)

good series jimi, with that group.I think we may have surpassed the Colin Andrews question bank thread. Hopefully the show hasn't been done yet (today?)

............... four days until I can hear the show  ......... Time why you not move faster!!!

stonehart, here's clip of Matt Williams to pass the time (you'll find many more ranged along the right side of the youtube page). This one presents his account of his reaction to Linda Moulton Howe, which I think trained observer said earlier in the thread he's interested in hearing.

 Yikes. Now I'll probably not be able to listen to the show without thinking of chest hair.

Warning: video link above contains partial nudity. :D

That's hilarious, the guy is a character! Tbh., I find it quite refreshing, the British 'cut the bollocks' attitude.

A Pretty funny anecdote, but probably could have been told in less than the 10 minutes it took. Near the end of the clip, matt mentioned he was starting to think lmh was in the camp of researchers who act like children who want it all their way, to which I ask'...starting to think...?

Yes, that is the story. Would have played better on the radio, if you catch my drift.

This is a great documentary. I think Matt is one of the three makers in the film. This explains it all. If you can watch this and Matt's "Croppies" documentary and still think there is something other than human beings responsible for crop circles there is just no helping you.

At the risk of sounding lazy, do any of you guys know of any videos matt did where he expounds of an aspect which was mentioned earlier in this thread and matt touched upon in this vid and that was the apparent presence of energy after a crop circle was made by artist ?. I don't want to focus too much on this issue but instead of going on and on about LMH and her quirkiness (which Is not news) I would have preferred to hear him mention the different readings that the researchers claimed were present. What I mean is that matt didn't really riff on what he may have perceived as a sham nor did he express surprise at the results or ask to see the results for himself....although maybe this is not of interest to him...he just let it drop and continued bashing LMH which I'm all for as long as it's done constructively and not via ad hominem attacks :)

The message I got from that was that the so-called crop circle "researchers" (represented by LMH, BLT, and Glickman) are more interested in perpetuating the "mystery" rather than any truth that might be present. The whole "readings" thing is a wash if you think about it. So-called anomalous readings taken in a known man-made crop circle tells me the readings aren't all that "anomalous."

I don't disagree with you on that I would probably even think "well that's convenient" but maybe from his pov it was a no brainer. I was just was of the mind that that aspect was worth a comment that's all.

He does discuss this elsewhere. It's been a while since I dug through all of this and I can't remember which video talks about it.
