Guitar players

Free episodes:

Hi there!

I've been playing for seven years or so, though drums are my first instrument.

At home I hardly use anything but my old Yamaha acoustic, but with bands I use either my (much-upgraded) MIJ Fender Jaguar, or my (also tinkered with) MIM Tele. For my amp, I've used a Deluxe Reverb RI for quite a while... as for pedals, I usually just use an overdrive, compressor, and some delay.

I'm very fond of the Jag; it's got a lot of personality!

I play a '92 US Tele, but my main guitar is a Tokai Strat circa '86 which I got for my Bar Mitzvah. Heavily modified since, with a Shecter fixed bridge and 2 Seymour Duncan Humbuckers, and very recently a midi pickup. Mmmm.

I'm absolutely astounded at the number of Fender players on this board. Most forums I'm on are filled with Gibson and Ibanez players.

I'm a little dissapointed that more people on this board don't own Jacksons.

Trying to be as objective as possible here is gonna be hard, but I find for the money, you get the best guitars out of Jackson. It was good enough for Randy Rhoads after all, who is quite simply one of the greatest guitar players that ever existed, and had he not been robbed from us so young, I doubt there would be a better guitar player on the planet.

But back to my point, PRS and Gibson make great guitars, no question, but I find the lack of in shop customization a little disturbing. I mean, Floyd Rose, who makes the greatest bridge design, are found on almost every jackson worth over $1,000 and when looking at the product catalogues of many different guitar companies, Floyd Roses are often substituted for lame imitations.

I've played many guitars, many amps, and many different set ups, and over the years I've found that there is no substitute for a good Jackson, preferebly one made in the USA. It may cost you upwards of $2,000, but it's still cheaper than a LP.

Those curious about the different options that each jackson can be equipped with should check out the custom shop section of their website, you can essentially build your guitar from scratch.

I have a friend that builds guitars out of queer things like gas cans.
He is a pure waste of talent thanks to Jack Daniels but when he is not
so drunk he can make his queer guitars sound just as good or better than any thing any of us play. He is amazing. And terribly fun at a camp fire.

Since there seems to be so much love for Johnny Marr, allow me to enlighten you.

Hi Methshin I see your a Iced Earth fan. I followed them pretty closely during the original Matt Barlow day's,(up to Horror Show). Was a Blind Guardian fan as well.

Now for a guitar player, me in a alternate dimension ...John Petrucci : Dream Theater.

I could never really get into dream theatre, Petrucci and Portnoy are truly brilliant players, but the music is just a little too polished for me.

Barlow is back in Iced Earth again, though the last album was a little weak, actually, the two they made with Ripper Owens were incredible, the glorious burder featured a 3 song 30 minute long tribute to the battle of Gettysburg featuring the Prague philharmonic orchestra. Simply brilliant.

Blind Guardian is one of the greatest bands of all time. How someone so German can sound so Brittish is beyond me.

Have you heard of Demons and Wizards? It's Schaffer from Iced Earth with the Hansi of Blind Guardian. Such a good band, their first album "fiddler on the Green" was beautiful, very accessible as well. Their second album "Touched by the Crimson King" is a concept album revolving around Stephen King's Dark Tower series, which is epic as fuck.

I've been pushing a christian metal band since December. They're called Theocracy and they are one of the greatest bands I've heard in the last few years.

Yes I have Fiddler on the Green and it's awesome..will take a look at Crimson King. I've heard of Theocracy as well.

I missed seeing BG in Chicago a few years ago as they were opening for Symphony X. I had friends who went and told me Jon Schaffer introduced BG to the crowd.

I was really into the power metal scene back late 90's early 20's. Along with IC and BG...Gamma Ray and Stratovarious were also on my old mp3 player's. :)

But then my interest soon waned a little more progressive with Dream Theater,Ayrion and others. I'm still into DT but have been listening to a band called Opeth recently. Opeth is brilliant.

lol, I'm going to Opeth in about a month in Toronto, been a fan of them for a while now. Michael Akerfeldt, former PRS player, is an amzaing guitar player and vocalist. Great band.

Ayreon, fucking fantastic! Some of their albums are hard to find, especially their first few, and they are the type of band where you need all the albums in order to truly appreciate them.

Whenever the winter comes, I always listen to Black metal and symphonic black metal. Emperor and Dimmu Borgir are my two faves of that genre. Black metal is definatly an acquired taste, but once you start, it's hard to stop.

Here's an example to those that have never heard Dimmu
