But I would disagree about there being no progress.
Maybe. So what do we know now that we didn't know 60 years ago? Where they're from? Why they're here? Why they eschew public recognition yet "tease" exposure with alleged flights over major cities (with running lights no less)? Why UFOs often are connected with other forms of phenomenon? Why there is no consistency as to descriptions or stories? Why the ONLY "evidence" after 60 years is anecdotal and mainly subjective? If we have learned anything whatsoever about UFOs that we didn't know 60 years ago I'd be anxious to hear what that is.

Whereas if I saw an unidentified thing in the sky that looked like a shiny metallic manufactured craft with lights and landing gear and little dudes poking their heads out the window saying "take me to your dealer," then call me naieve to our "interdimensional reality," but I would think I'd just seen a frikin alien spaceship.
Why would you possibly leap to the assumption that your hypothetical sighting was extraterrestrial in nature, as opposed to inter-dimensional or any of 100 other "theories"? There is no support for such a conclusion at all, and being trapped in such a paradigm is why research into UFOs is dead-ended. It is filled with conclusions based on belief, assumption and predisposition, not evidence.

Who cares where the space ship was from. Nobody knows where they originate. Most hypotheses are valid (i stress "most").
The whole argument, ETH vs Inter-dimensional vs crypto-terrestrial is becoming tiresome. When someone has some definitive proof, show us.

We know that there are multi witness reports of intelligently controlled craft.
You would get a significant argument from many people that we KNOW these sightings are "craft"--lots of people and legitimate learned researchers postulate they are not "nuts and bolts". And you would get a ton of disagreement that we KNOW they are intelligently controlled. Exactly how do we know that? And if that's a settled area of study then let's move on to simply the "who" and pass right over any other inquiry. Then we will be certain to never get a legitimate, scientific study of the field.

Part of the problem is that UFO "fans" draw conclusions which seem perfectly acceptable and logical to them but which are outrageous leaps of unfounded faith to many others. I, for one, think the area is interesting but I have by no means come to any conclusions as to what these things may be...because no one has yet presented compelling evidence to explain the phenomenon. Maybe they're alien, maybe inter-dimensional, maybe "demonic", maybe inexplicable albeit undiscovered natural phenomenon, maybe psychological, maybe collective consciousness. Unless and until we can get honest-to-God objective scientists to examine the area we are stuck with "answers" that are little more than broad guesses and wishes.

SO, lets get back to my original question. Is there an organization or group of credible folks that I can learn from? It just doesnt make sense to start jumping in with no clue how to jump in. I do not want to waste my time chasing my tail.

If you are interested in UFOs Ron Collins I would suggest going to the MUFON website. MUFON has state chapters- you might try joining one of those. That would be my suggestion.
If your interest is ghosts have you checked to see if there are any nearby ghost hunting groups? I think these are real hit and miss in terms of the quality of folks you will be dealing with but if you don't want to go it alone I would say those are your options. Keep us updated if you decide to make the plunge!

Check out this list of paranormal groups at GhostVillage.com and see if any of them are near you:
Ghost Village List of Groups
And like I said, if you are interested in researching UFOs I personally think MUFON is the way to go.

You can learn a lot from dummies too Ron. How not to be. Mufon will supply you with good and bad researchers:) I was with them. I stopped learning from them after awhile. I lasted 3 or 4 years.
