Italian doctor says he has cloned three babies

Free episodes:

He seems to have the credentials and background to have actually done this. And I don't doubt that it could be true. If we can do something, as controversial as it may be, we will do it. I bet at some point in the future, maybe even the near future, human cloning will be universally accepted as a normal thing. So long as we can stay away from grossly disfigured Frankestein-like monstrosities.

Then put him in a cell and forget about him.

With 6 billion people in the world today, introducing a new way of creating human beings that also reduces genetic diversity: yeah, great idea.

It's time people stopped regarding babies as consumer goods that anyone is entitled to if they have enough money or an unscrupulous doctor.
If you get lucky, that's good. If you don't: life is hard. Not every problem can or should be fixed.

As we get a better handle on genetics it will become easier to do. What if, in whatever amount of time it takes, that there are no "side effects".?What if we prefect a way to control the cloning so nothing bad happens?? Designer babies, I feel, are on the way. And perhaps clones as well.

At this point, put one doctor in jail, and three sprout up in his place. Obviously there is demand. These are questions that mankind will have to face sooner than later, especially if this doctor did indeed perform this act.

I sadly had Rael flashbacks, or whatever his name is.

From what I understand we can clone humans. I figure it's a matter of time too. Don't know if it's been done or not yet.

Its really simple. If you can clone a sheep, cat, cow, pig, deer, horse and a goat then you can clone a human. Technology is not the point. Social, Political, and Religious concerns are the point. The technology is available. We can do it so I dont doubt that it has already been done. The question is should we.

Another point that can be made. Cloning does not mean identicle to the host. Simply that genetically the two are identicle. Phenotypically they will most likely be different (Epigenetic Reprogramming). As we saw with the cloned cat, the differences were astounding. Eye color, fur color and pattern, hair length, height, weight and a host of other factors. Though I can not find the article (and I may not be remembering this correctly) but I think they also had different blood types. Note sure though.

I saw twins the other day on a show, one was a midget the other wasn't. They looked nothing alike, other than two arms two legs. I wonder if clones could be as different. I don't expect they will, for awhile. But, that's just a guess.

It was a tv show I caught. Dealt with a midget couple with kids. Can't recall the title. I wasn't joking about the twins. Thought I'd mention this after my previous post about the baby who cloned the doctor.

I kinda covered that. The answer is that they will, in all likelyhood, be quite different. Just because the DNA is 100% identicle, they will not (some say can not) be phenotypically identicle. Different genes will be turned on or off due to things such as early gestation temerature variance. To be honest, we have no idea why some genes are on and others are off. There is the whole Nature vs Nurture debate. It could be phase of the moon for all we know. Just rest assured, there will be genetically identicle yet phenotypically diverse clones long long long before we can master identical clones with identicle phenotypes.
