Much of modern Christianity is based on the "feel" or sentiment of what Jesus stood for -- helping and loving others, selflessness, purity of soul, faithfulness etc. It seems that for many, whether the literal meanings of what's found in there are irrelevant, since it is accepted even among many scholars that allegory and metaphor are acceptable means of communicating this message. It isn't like we're a bunch of militant Muslims that will go nuts if someone questions the literal word -- some will, but it's the minority -- because enough of the Bible is.
In other words, the atheist dream of somehow dissolving Christianity must live on in the courts, because it won't anywhere else. And if that looks like it might come to pass, expect that some of the loving kindness aspects of the message might take a backseat for a spell.
None the less the bible, gods instruction manual to mankind contains commands to stone people to death
What the Bible says about stoning
It may seem like an abstract concept, but watch the video below this is what the bible commanded of people
Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die. Deuteronomy 22:13-21
Here is what gods command looks life in real life (although this is a re-enactment you can find real world examples online)
Now this is islam we are looking at in the video, but the command to stone comes from their "creator" god, and they use the exact same excuse others here have to justify their gods killing
In some schools of Islamic law the punishment of stoning has been prescribed as punishment for married men or women who have committed adultery, following a confession or the testimony of four eye-witnesses. It has no basis in the Qur'an however it is found in Hadith (e.g. Sahih Muslim 17:4191 - 4209 and 17:4916 & 17:4194)
If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city. Deuteronomy 22:23-24
but since God gives us life He also has every right to take life when He sees fit to do that. We might not understand that and in my opinion we don't always need to..
The characters in this video re-enactment use the very same rationale if such a word could apply to this.
That biblical stonings took place long ago and islamic stonings take place today is simply a matter of temporal co-ordinates. It matters not one bit to the victims then and now of this heinous practise.
We look at that video and we rightly feel disgusted, yet the bible contains gods commands to do just this very thing on his behalf, it was gods LAW to do this thing.
When you look at that video, how can you then praise and exalt any being who would order such a thing ?
They found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day. ... And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones.... And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses. Numbers 15:32-56
