Lost in the noise

I think the OP has forgotten that this is a Radio show. The modus operandi is discussion. It's not some funded research group tackling the problem, so stressing various areas of expertise such as physics, philosophy, and history is a little exacting I think, dare I say clamorous. The show doesn't purport to hold expert discussion in light of those topics, though it certainly has in some way at times. I just think this thread was a little out of context.

The burning bush may disagree with me on that one though.

That statement of "history written by the defeated" really makes no sense to me at all. The conquerors of a society control the social institutions, in particular the educational (indoctrination) system, so how could history *ever* be written by the defeated?

A synchronistic event today as I was discussing revisionist history just this afternoon with a friend who spent some time teaching in Japan... she tells me they didn't teach about the atom bomb. And everyone knows what happened over there to cause their surrender to McArthur (I think that was the fellow).

If that is correct - not teaching about the atom bomb, that is - then that would be a prime example of a defeated nation writing their own version of history.

It seems to be human nature to present one's self in the best possible light when talking about past actions and motivations for same: How many of us have heard a friend "revise" their version of an episode that left them humiliated and defeated into something completely different where they emerged pride intact and having kicked the crap out of (insert choice here)?

Is is not likely, then, that those of us who govern a nation and educate its' children would attempt to do the same out of whatever motive is strongest?

I am open-jawed with wonder. I thought I was a legend in MY own mind, but this guy takes the prize. That is by far the longest post I have ever suffered through which says basically one thing: Gene and David are too ignorant to talk about this field and are therefore frustrated. The solution is for them to go back to school, get a few PhDs apiece, and then be able to converse like educated people.

That's all it says. It just uses a lot of impressive big words to say it. I guess I should stay away from here because although I do have a degree in cultural anthropology, I've never been able to spell e-pissed-a-mology worth a damn. My suggestion is to go write a book, stick it on Amazon, and we'll read the reviews.

Meanwhile, most all posts here are written in English. If you want to communicate meaningfully with the riff-raff down here, climb down off that tall perch and try using it. TIA.

Wrt "paranormal research" and UFO phenomenon, I personally make a distinction that there may very well be several phenomena (plural) going on, i.e. what UFO historian Jerry Clark defined as:

1/ the "event phenomenon", where you can demonstrate something happened in the world, i.e. is seen by mutliple witnesses, is tracked instrumentally, leaves ground traces etc (e.g. "daylight disks")
2/ the "experience phenomenon" where people report extraordinary encounters and make claims which seem experientally real to them, but are undocumentable in consenus reality, anomaly of consciousness, in imagination (e.g. fairy lore, which exists in many different folklores)

and these two may not even be related, but may be fundamentally different.

In my experience, well versed generalists always offer more insights and stimulating arguments when discussing most subjects than specialists, who often tend to be intellectually crippled by narrowly restricted educations, self imposed ignorance and an arrogant contempt for anything that challenges their own skewed world view, no matter how effectively their conclusions can be refuted.

Scientific knowledge is always in a state of flux; yet that doesn't seem to give many self proclaimed experts pause when declaring that they alone possess absolute truth. At one time or another, the gatekeepers of materialistic reductionism have claimed that it was impossible for stones to fall from the sky, that complex life forms could be spontaneously generated from inorganic matter, only human beings use tools, and the very notion that disease could be transmitted by organisms so small as to be invisible to the naked eye was just too ridiculous to be investigated. Only an ignorant moron would even consider testing the hypothesis.

This world would be a far better place if we had far fewer opinionated gonifs waving practically worthless ivy league college degrees in our faces, and a lot more Teslas and Edisons.

You want genuine intellectual progress and dramatic improvements in the human condition? Give me engineers!! More rather than fewer, sooner rather than later....damn ye.

It was to MY benefit, my mental health. Not like that means anything to our audience - I'm sure my dropping dead would provide endless delight to oh so many faceless fans.

Jesus H. Christmas tree, you'd think that I raped a puppy or something. A hundred and thirty-something episodes, I walk off one, and now I'm a scumbag.

Dude nobody is trashing you for walking off. People who are questioning it can't relate to the situation, so it becomes a big deal and adds to the drama. Nobody wants to see you fall down. Take a break, have a guest host. You and Gene are important new voices in a field of mostly idiots. Walk off all the shows you want, just don't walk away. What you and Gene are doing is important.

What kind of puppy was it?

The Paracast isn't a place for answers, there aren't any. Its a place for questions and critical thinking. The Paracast has drawn a line in the sand when it comes to this field, and people are talking. Its apparent that lots of them aren't happy. So what, fuck em. They are shill's and liars and need to be continuously reminded as such.

Great post, indeed the parcast is the only real show discussing this topics. It would be missed by me and definately by others who are here longer than i am.David and Gene are true voices of reality, let us not lose that.

Well said, I totally agree.

Vaeni or Ritzmann would could guest host pretty well. Jeff has done it before anyway I think, when David was sick once.

You know, I think either of them would indeed do a great job. I know Jeff has been swamped lately, but it's just about time to do a campfire chat. Guest suggestions, please. I vote for Dolan, Jeremy, Jeff (if available), Birnes, Leslie Kean, Gene & me. Thoughts?

dB

Mac Tonnies would be good too. Maybe you guys could pick a specific case and spend the show discussing it.Maybe an intriguing case that hasn't gotten to much press.

This must be done.

I second this idea. You could do it as an ongoing-but-irregular series of "spotlights".

That's a good idea...

How about starting with the landing case in Voronezh,Russia,in 1989? In a way,it's the perfect Paracast case, complete with all the bizarre, absurd and contradictory elements of the "UFO-experience" - from 10ft tall headless giants, too a box-like robot with arms and legs.On top of all this,it's got dozens of witnesses...

Jacques Vallee was so intrigued by this case that he personally traveled too Russia to investigate. He also wrote a wonderful book about the expedition - "UFO Chronicles of the Soviet Union: A Cosmic Samizdat" - which is a long lost Vallee classic.

The book can be found here

I love the concept of having a panel of UFO "pundits" really digging into a case, but I beg of you - NO MORE Birnes!! Not a big fan of Mac Tonnies either...

My Utopian Paracast Panel - Biedny,Steinberg,Kean,Dolan,Vaeni,Vallee.
OK,it may be a long-shot getting Vallee to participate in a show like this, but it's definitely worth asking...

And now,on with the show! :)

Hey, I've read the book and everything. (Has everyone else, though? It's fairly obscure.)

What about a year-in-review episode? Or is that too Tom Brokaw?
