Here's the thing...

Yeah, I always get a chuckle when I hear the list of questions was drawn up by the interviewee. Why bother doing an interview then? Just let him rant and leave out the token interviewer.... I even dislike when an interviewee is given the questions ahead of time. It gives them time to prepare answers and "get their stories straight" so to speak.

I totally get what you mean by more of a discussion with the Paracast than an interview. I think it lends to the show for sure and offers a slightly different perspective on the interviewees views. It also makes it possible to call people out on stuff, while oppositely allowing certain topics to be really explored rather than presented.

Now, that being said, I think if you were to relisten to the show (I'm sure that's condemning some to a personal level of hell... ha! :p) You would see he pretty much just firstly gave his doctrine as a means to put his cards on the table as far as where he was coming from first and foremost. Of course this isn't a lecture format, simply a "Here's my main belief system just so we're on the up and up." Then, silly enough it got hung up on is the Jesus character beneovelant or malevolent when setting up his point. It's almost laughable. First he was challenged on "did Jesus really exist" to which he said something along the lines of "if he does, would he be?" A fair way to address the question in my opinion. Otherwise, wouldn't we then get hung up on "do intelligent beings really fly the craft?" as that too is pretty much not proveable. They could be unmanned vessels, or like you said on the recently posted video (which I agree on) are possibly lifeforms in their own right.

You didn't really get into the discussion enough to reach a point where data or substantiation would come into play as the hang up seemed to occur right in the intro and never really went anywhere after that. Clearly biasm against religion is enough to stunt a discussion on the Paracast when one is abnormally biased for and one is abnormally biased against.

I'm fine with that though as there are other podcasts I listen to that delves more into the possible more esoterical, philosophical and theological aspects of the phenomenon. The Paracast still offers a lot from a scientific and social aspect of the phenomenon.

So, just to be clear.... I love the podcast and think it offers a lot to the listener. I just think Marzuli is being unfairly assessed is all do to a stunted discussion.

...

I'll obviously speak for myself here (Gene can chime in if he likes with his own take) - I've never considered myself an actual interviewer, and I've never claimed to be skilled or trained as such. ..
We don't have a list of questions prepared, ...

The Paracast is a different beast. Marzulli made statements that relied on faith and indoctrination, and backed his claims up with precious little fact or substantiation. In a classroom environment, he'd get a D+ for his presentation, for lacking any sense of structure, reasoning or logic.

OK, time to go, next "interview" coming up... ::)

sometimes, that is a good thing - it lets you go 'with the flow'. others, I don't know...

when you don't have a crib sheet to follow, you can pick up on stuff that often gets missed when your list of questions is only half finished and the interview is 3/4 over.

I can argue both sides, but the status quo must be working, cause I still download faithfully every week!

At the beginning of this little segment LA states that he likes this show(C2C) the best because he is allowed to basically say anything he wants. C2C offers that platform. He also said that some other shows (which he didn't name) won't accept his evidence and that they question everything he presents. I have to wonder if the show he was talking about was the Paracast or some other show.

I didn't get much out of the Paracast interview with him. But I've never heard him before. Seems to me that he takes some pretty big leaps into his own conclusions. But if he takes these big leaps, isn't it helpful, even necessary, that he back it up instead of just proclaiming?? Thats the difference between C2C and the Paracast IMO.

I'm not a fan of leaping conclusions, which is much of what Marzulli presented on the Paracast. If he had too much material to cover, then he should have kept his answers narrowed down to the basics. Instead he jumped all over the place and prefaced a good portion of his answers with more background than answer, seeming to arrive at the conclusion well before he established any train of thought.

I guess faith is a good thing, if it's what one seeks; however I like to have (as one Jesus is reputed to have said) a "strong foundation upon which to build my house" of conclusions. I didn't find a strong foundation at all in Marzulli's answers. I found a house built upon faith and mythology.

How come there are so many boot-lickers on this forum. It's like one big circle-jerk that won't let me in! Lol..

Ha ha ha. Here's how you do it. First, drop the attitude. It isn't cute. Second, post something insighful or contribute to the thread in such a way that it is obvious you know something of the subject. If you have some personal knowledge, share it. If you know where there is more information on the subject, tell us. If you have something to say about the show itself, have at it. Really, it's easy. 'Pffftttt!' doesn't cut it. It just ain't useful.

Oh, no. Now I'll be accused of 'picking' on a newbie who 'doesn't feel welcome.'

Protips:
- don't claim to build UFOs
- don't claim to be a starchild or a hybrid
- don't just shit on things, offer intelligent rebuttle, unless it is repeated across many threads in the span of a month, in which case shit away
- if you're gonna try and be funny, it damn well better be funny
- don't talk about fight club
