Meteor Impact in Russia

Free episodes:

This is sounding like a fairly significant impact (As far as meteorites go). It astounds me that the major news networks with their "supposed" 24 hour coverage have yet to report on this. Yet when Lindsay Lohan gets arrested and it's a bulletin within 15 minutes.

Now they're stating 750 people injured, with 34 people hospitalized, and more buildings were damaged than first reported.
Meteor Streaks Across Russian Urals, Leaves At Least 750 Injured (VIDEO)

Neil DeGrasse Tyson was on NBC Today show this morning talking about the meteor. He stated that asteroid 2012DA14 that will pass very close to earth today had nothing to do with the Russian meteor, even though they are apparently very close in size.
I find it too much of a coincidence that 2012DA14 and the meteor are not somehow related, like being in a swarm of meteors/asteroids....or maybe the meteor broke off from 2012DA14 when it passed around the sun a few weeks ago.
Keep an eye on the skies my freinds!

UPDATE 10:10AM EST......1000 people now reported injured, 43 hospitalized.

Very interesting event. I was watching CNN and they said it injured hundreds, then as they move on to the next story the news anchor says at least it didn't hurt anyone. Huh?

It's a good thing this isnt the cold war era or we probably wouldn't be here discussing anything except on the preppers thread.

I wake up to find that a nice chunk of space rock hit the planet... my inbox is buzzing with it but the only mainstream media on our local out lets is a tiny blurb at the bottom of the page.

so could this have been a companion chunk of the main Roid that just passed us?

Well hey these guys have done good straight up release on it.

Meteor explodes over central Russia, over 1,000 injured| Reuters

But an astronomer at Russia's Academy of Sciences, Sergei Barabanov, poured doubt on that report. He said there was no evidence to support the theory that the meteor had travelled with the asteroid or had broken off from it.
The European Space Agency, on its Twitter microblog, also said its experts had confirmed there was no link.

Well that answers my question

The "authorities" are stating no, there is no connection between 2012DA14 and the Russian meteor explosion.
My gut tells me this is too much of a coincidence, but hey....I'm no cosmic statistician.

There are no coincidences :) .. but no I agree and get that gut feeling that it is a possibility

This may have been debris trailing with the astroide that passed by eath we may have had more than one but this is the only one that hit populated areas.

I heard on bbc newshour that our uninvited guest came in from the completely opposite direction from where the asteroid approached from. when I first saw the videos of this event i thought it was a hoax ala that warp that opened up over the skies of moscow that was also captured on a video taken from a car, but I since learned that many cars in russia carry forward mounted cameras.

The coverage in the UK was really good. On the main news was a montage of personal video clips of the meteor breaking up. Christ on a bike - it was really bright! I just don't know how scary or awesome etc it must have been. And then there was a huge boom, either from it breaking the sound barrier or from it impacting the ground, it was this causing windows to break as people were looking out thru the windows that caused the injuries.

I must have seen about 6 separate vids of the meteor at different stages of being in the atmosphere.

(personally I think the boom was caused by the secret Tunguska meteor-gun that motors up out of a lake once every hundred years and destroys a potentially fatal meteor, like this one!)
