I used to think there was some substance to claims of moon fakery. Then I looked at the evidence and realised that the hoax claims were based on incorrect understanding of the conditions on the moon, how the photographs were taken etc. I think that saying that the first landing was fake but the others weren't because we didn't quite have the technology is not really supported by the evidence. Did technology change so significantly between the first and second missions?
I think the real scandal is the fact that after the Apollo missions NASA just stopped going any further. It seems in the last 30 years we have gone backwards. So NASA might put a man on the moon in 2020 - when it will be 50 years after the first moon landing. I think that there should be a REAL international space agency to which all countries have to contribute part of their GDP. This should be independent of individual countries politics and should be completely free and open with all of its work and whatever scientific discoveries are made. It should have bold missions such as working on interstellar flight, colonisation of the moon and mars etc. I think that the money spent would definitely be worth it in terms of the strides made in technology and in inspiring people of all nations.
