Glad to hear you enjoyed it mate. You know there is always the possibility that the story did happen exactly as he saw it, but that the images just 'looked' like structures even though it was just the normal moon surface. For example, many people will look at pictures on the net of lunar anomalies and see structures etc.... but when i look at them i just see moon surface on most occasions, its particularly the lack of any colour that does it for me.... would the aliens have built all of their pipes and machines in the exact same colour as the moon?
He even said that he had to wait for his eyes to get acclimated before he saw them... maybe by letting his eyes get acclimated he was just seeing things that weren't really there.

I would love to hear other peoples opinions on these podcasts.

Yes, that's certainly possible. I don't believe that the idea of visual illusions was ever brought up in that episode. I'd like to think, however, that Vito's determination to get his hands on those photos would have kept his mind sharp, and that he wasn't just seeing patterns or "cloud-gazing".
