I like the new layout. It seems a bit faster, and the graphics a bit softer. No bugs yet, but I'll keep trying.

Gene-

I haven't used the forum all that much since the change. But I was hopelessly addicted to the "Unread Posts" button. I see there is a "Today's Posts" button in the new forum, but is there a button that allows a user to catch up on all the unread posts if they don't check daily?? Thanks

I'd think the New Posts and What's New buttons should be adequate replacements. :)

Here's something that isn't working. You subscribe to a thread. When a new message is posted the system sends you an email. You click on the link which is a variation on this:
Butch Witkowski/ Human Mutilations. (It translated the link where I actually wanted to show it. Let's see if I can fake it:
xww.theparacast.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6122&goto=newpost

and theoretically that opens your default browser and takes you to the new post. How does it know what a new post is to you? Probably a cookie, would be my guess, though I haven't pursued that. In the old software it would take you to the new post precisely. As I remember, it double-loaded the page before you got to the new post. In the new software, it will take you to the last page of the thread, but does not take you to the new post precisely. Just FYI.

I agree that it's cookie related. Let me rummage around and see what I can find.

Yes, there appears to be an issue jumping to the new posts in the latest software update. There's supposed to be another in a couple of weeks that will fix another 200 bugs, so I hope this isn't a serious inconvenience and that it'll be addressed in that update.

Meantime, I've added an Unread Post display in the forum's header (top right) and performed a few other fixes. This stuff never ends.

The thread ticker is neat but is there any way you can get it to scroll right to left instead of left to right?

We dumped the ticket and replaced it with a static Latest Topics display. You don't have to worry about right versus left or catching a moving target. :)

Here's an update: The people at vBulletin have isolated the problem with the failure to jump to new posts. It will be fixed in the next update -- version 4.0.2 -- which is due out in another week or two. We hope. :)

How large a message can be posted on the board? I seem to remember in SQL there's MediumText and LargeText data elements in addition to normaltext, but it's been a long time. I didn;t want to start a separate thread just to ask the question. TIA.

We have font sizes labeled from 1 to 7, each of which is a proportion, more or less, of the standard size, which is 14 point. I wish it was more clear, but feel free to experiment. Use the Advanced feature to get all the sizes and other options.

Sorry, Gene. I should have been more clear. By 'how large a message' I meant how many characters. I should have said, 'How LONG a message.' :-)
